The Leidos Chief Technology Officer organization has an opening for a Vice President of AI Solutions, reporting to the Chief AI Officer (CAIO). The CAIO oversees and directs the design and execution of Leidos’ Trusted Mission AI strategy and governs the execution of Leidos AI programs, projects, and initiatives. As a key leader within the CAIO organization, the VP of AI Solutions identifies, orchestrates, and oversees Leidos’ most impactful AI efforts on behalf of Leidos customers. The work overseen by the VP of AI Solutions covers the full range of Leidos business areas from National Security to Digital Modernization to Civil to Health to Commercial and International markets, delivering transformational capabilities based on our Trusted Mission AI strategy. The focus of the VP of AI Solution’s role is to drive the delivery of these AI-driven capabilities – for efficiency, better decision-making, and extension of human agency – across the most impactful, data-centric missions we perform for our customers. The ideal candidate will work onsite at the Reston headquarters with some flexibility for remote, 25%.

Primary Responsibilities

The VP of AI Solutions is a passionate champion for leveraging AI to deliver transformative mission solutions for Leidos customers. They are far more than a traditional solution architect – they are responsible for orchestrating and overseeing the most impactful AI programs across all our markets to support our Trusted Mission AI strategy. Working directly with the CAIO as well as senior leaders across Leidos Sectors, the VP of AI Solutions identifies and prioritizes programs and business development opportunities to accelerate growth and create differentiation through the introduction of AI-based solutions.  The VP of AI Solutions establishes objectives and coordinates the assignment of resources from across Leidos, including the AI Accelerator and the Sector-based AI teams, to accomplish those objectives. Throughout execution, the VP of AI Solutions monitors these efforts to assess progress against planned schedule, goals, and impacts. The VP of AI Solutions proactively identifies risks and barriers to successful execution, working with the CAIO and senior leaders across Leidos to mitigate those risks and overcome barriers.  The VP of AI Solutions leads the design of metrics to measure performance and effectiveness and to capture and report the ROI for customer-based AI efforts. Throughout the execution of these responsibilities, the VP of AI Solutions achieves their objectives through influence, coordination, and resourcing rather than direct control of individual projects and initiatives.

The VP of AI Solutions is part of a core team of senior leaders supporting the CAIO in developing and leading the execution of Leidos Trusted Mission AI strategy. The VP of AI Solutions will be an active contributor to the design of that strategy and its articulation across the entire Leidos community, communicating to a broad range of audiences and helping them understand its implications within their organizations. The VP of AI Solutions will help align the initiatives they oversee to that strategy, assuring that they achieve desired strategic impacts. The VP of AI Solutions will work closely with other members of the CAIO team – as well as CTOs and solution architects from across Leidos – to assure that AI solutions support not only individual Leidos customers but wherever possible form the basis for repeatable solutions we can scale across our markets.

The VP of AI Solutions will work closely with leaders across the Chief Technology Officer function, including the CTOs and Technology Integration organization, to support the broader goals of supporting the technical advancement of Leidos. They will work closely with the VP of AI Solutions for External Technology, assuring that AI solutions involving external technology are aligned with broader partnership objectives. They will work closely with our Digital Modernization Sector and the Technology Transition team to identify opportunities for internal AI capabilities to become repeatable offerings for our customers. They will work closely with the Ethical AI Working Group to assure that AI efforts for which Leidos is accountable are brought under the AI Governance process.

Basic Qualifications

  • Masters with 20+ years of prior relevant experience or Doctorate with 16+ years of prior relevant experience, or Bachelor's Degree and equivalent experience, education and training.
  • Prior technical roles overseeing significant AI programs to deliver significant AI capabilities, either within internal systems or customer environments.
  • Excellent technical credentials in various subfields relevant to AI (e.g., Data Science, Data Engineering, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Generative AI, Computer Science).
  • Familiarity with a broad range of AI techniques and applications, including Data Science, Analytics, Autonomy/Autonomous Systems, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Reinforcement Learning, and Generative AI/LLMs.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of AI applications across relevant Leidos business areas including health, civil, national security, civil, physical security, and energy
  • Familiarity with analyzing and fusing large volumes of data across a broad range of phenomenologies – from the EM spectrum (computer vision, EW, radar, etc.) to natural language and speech (including multilingual) to structured data – to support the application of AI and improve decision-making.
  • Familiarity with and ability to architect solutions using a broad range of AI techniques including (but not limited to) Data Science, Analytics, Autonomy/Autonomous Systems, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Reinforcement Learning, NLP, and Generative AI/LLMs.
  • Experienced at conceiving, designing and implementing innovative AI solutions to transform complex mission requirements.
  • Ability to understand and implement security controls – particularly around data and data access – as part of AI solutions.
  • Ability to influence and persuade others, and build consensus
  • Effective at communicating with senior management including executive leaders.
  • Strong public speaking skills. Strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience in developing AI strategy and in driving execution of major strategic initiatives to support that strategy in a commercial or government setting.
  • Deep expertise in a broad range of Data Science and Data Analytic tools and techniques.
  • Understanding of the importance of ML Ops and Data Ops as well as their relationship to broader DevOps concepts and processes.
  • Understanding of core concepts around AI risk, AI ethics, and AI governance.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and build solutions leveraging Generative AI, including workflow patterns like RAG and prompt engineering, while having a deep understanding of the strengths, limitations, and vulnerabilities of GenAI.
  • Proven ability to drive successful execution of complex initiatives involving multiple stakeholders through influence and oversight rather than direct control of assets.
  • Experience in design and implementation of metrics-based approaches to assess and report on AI impacts.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $207,200.00 - $333,000.00
