Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Professor/ Associate Professor/ Assistant Professor in AI in Construction Management in the Department of Real Estate and Construction (Ref.: 532454), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract, subject to satisfactory performance.  Exceptionally outstanding candidates for Professor/ Associate Professor appointment may be considered for appointment on tenure terms.

Applicants should

  • possess a Ph.D.  degree in construction management, architecture, civil engineering, AI and robotics, or a related field; and
  • demonstrate excellence in academic research, particularly in AI in construction management.  Key areas of expertise may include, but are not limited to, digital project engineering and management, construction informatics, construction robots and automation, digital transformation, digital heritage conservation, safety management, proactive facility management, building/city health check, and next-generation BIM and digital twins.

Having expertise in leveraging advanced digital methods, big data analytics, machine learning, generative AI, large foundation models, embodied and agentic AI to address global challenges in the built environment would be advantageous for this position.

The appointees will be responsible for pioneering research initiatives, developing innovative teaching methodologies at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and actively contributing to the strategic planning and development of the Department. 

In addition to teaching, the appointees are expected to spearhead collaborative research projects that bridge the gaps between academic knowledge and industry practice in AI in construction management.  Experience and enthusiasm for engaging in multi-disciplinary research would be desirable.  They should show a capacity to secure research funding, publish influential papers in leading academic journals, and exhibit leadership in academic circles.  Collaborative and impactful research opportunities are available through HKUrbanLabs (https://www.arch.hku.hk/about/hkurbanlab-intro/), an intellectual platform that brings together leading scholars, researchers, and practitioners to advance knowledge related to the built environment and beyond.  Applicants can even establish their own labs under the umbrella in the future.  These roles offer a unique opportunity to influence the future of construction management education and practice through innovative research and interdisciplinary collaboration.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  Currently, the salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of the basic salary.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
