We're searching for a passionate and proven leader to build and guide our new Recommendations team. The ideal candidate is a data-driven leader with a strong understanding of recommendation algorithms, machine learning, and a passion for delivering personalized experiences.

As a team lead, you’ll be working closely together with our Product Managers, Designers, Data Scientists and other developers and our support team in order to provide tailored and innovative solutions for the market. You'll be responsible for hiring and managing a new team of talented engineers and to build a best-in-class recommendation engine that drives customer engagement and business growth.

What you'll be responsible for:

  • Build your team: Recruit, hire, and onboard top talent to form a high-performing recommendations team.
  • Be the trusted lead and partner of a development team of 5-6 members, guiding, motivating, and developing your team to solve complex business problems.
  • Enhance team growth through effective mentoring, coaching, and constructive feedback, while fostering a mutually supportive, inclusive, and collaborative environment.
  • You model lead-by-example excellence, provide high-quality code reviews and design feedback, and work to drive technical alignment in challenging areas.
  • Lead the way to develop performant, scalable, and maintainable applications, ensuring high technical quality and operational excellence in your area.
  • Collaborate closely with other teams, architects, product managers, and engineering leaders to align approaches and priorities.
  • Continuously improve our software delivery processes and practices, staying updated with industry trends to influence our strategic direction and foster innovation.
  • Provide technical and process guidance to your team.

What you'll be bringing to the team: 

  • Proven experience leading a team of developers through successful software projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to convey technical information to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach.
  • Expertise in data analysis, data mining, and working with large datasets.
  • Proficiency in Python or other relevant programming languages for data analysis and machine learning.
  • Solid understanding of development processes, testing, and CI/CD best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of Web application concerns: OAuth2, JWT, REST, OWASP
  • Passion for learning new things and desire to improve continuously.
  • Solution-oriented and constructive mindset and ability to manage ambiguity.

Even better if you have, but not necessary:

  • Interest in or experience with POS or eCommerce systems
  • Experience building scalable SaaS solutions
  • Experience working on recommendation systems
  • Experience with both relational/SQL (eg. MySQL) and non-relational/NoSQL (eg. Elasticsearch, DynamoDB, Redis) databases
  • Experience with Kafka or other real time messaging systems (eg. Pub/Sub)
  • Experience with Docker & Kubernetes and running Java containers in the cloud
  • Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent
