Responsibilities 

Leadership & Team Management: 

  • Manage and mentor a team of 4-20 software developers and AI engineers. 
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement. 
  • Provide clear direction and set expectations, ensuring the team remains focused on project goals. 
  • Ensure administrative processes are followed.  
  • As part of the management team, work to ensure that releases are on time and of high quality, that support requests are addressed as a top priority and that transparency to the rest of JSI is maintained.  
  • Act as the escalation point for inter-team communication problems.  


Agile Scrum Process: 

  • Lead daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives. 
  • Collaborate with Product Owners to refine and prioritize backlogs. 
  • Work close with QA and Automation teams to drive Test Driven Design (TDD) and Automation as key tenants to an Agile strategy 
  • Ensure the team adheres to Agile principles, delivering high-quality increments within sprint timelines. 

Project Delivery & Strategy: 

  • Oversee the successful delivery of AI/ML projects from inception to deployment. 
  • Monitor and manage project scope, risks, and dependencies, and ensure alignment with business goals. 
  • Drive decision-making that supports strategic goals and ensures scalability of AI/ML solutions. 

Technical Oversight: 

  • Provide technical guidance to the team on AI, ML, and software development best practices. 
  • Ensure that development processes and methodologies align with industry standards and innovations. 
  • Monitor software architecture associated with your teams, watching for building technical debt and improvement opportunities, keeping an eye on the future.  

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, a related field, or equivalent job experience. 
  • Familiarity with software development best practices. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.  
  • Team player – Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.  
  • Detail oriented. 
  • Eager to learn both as part of a team and self-directed learning. 
  • Ability to attain and maintain a top-secret security clearance.  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • 5+ years of experience managing, leading, coaching, and mentoring individuals and teams. 
  • Ability to enable your team to carry out delegated responsibilities and tasks effectively. 
  • Ability to manage several initiatives concurrently. 
  • Thorough grasp of all aspects of the software development lifecycle. 
  • 5+ year of experience with Agile development methodologies. 
  • Comfortable working effectively with customers, senior executives, and other stakeholders. 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Broad technical knowledge and ability to pick up a strategic understanding of new technologies.

How We Work   

As an HR Specialist, you will be expected to work in a remote/hybrid environment reporting to our Kanata, Ontario location 2 or more times per week.
