About the Team

The Intelligence and Investigations team seeks to rapidly identify and mitigate abuse and strategic risks to ensure a safe online ecosystem. We are dedicated to identifying emerging abuse trends, analyzing risks, and working with our internal and external partners to implement effective mitigation strategies to protect against misuse. Our efforts contribute to OpenAI's overarching goal of developing AI that benefits humanity.

About the Role

As the Strategic Initiative Lead, you will drive cross-functional efforts that expand the global impact and operational scalability of the Strategic Intelligence & Analysis team. You’ll act as a senior strategic operator—leading initiatives to internationalize our analytical outputs, align with global norms, and build strategic partnerships that advance a safer AI ecosystem.

This is a highly cross-functional role that works closely with Global Affairs, Legal, Safety Systems, GTM, Marketing, Finance, and Product teams to deliver strategic projects that further our mission. You'll coordinate across internal teams and external partners, helping operationalize OpenAI’s safety intelligence globally. You will also serve as a senior stakeholder and representative of the team in strategic and external-facing settings.

This role is based in Paris or London, and may involve regular travel to meet with stakeholders. Relocation assistance is available.

In this role, you will:

  • Design and execute multi-quarter strategic projects that scale OpenAI’s intelligence and online safety ecosystem globally.

  • Translate high-level safety, policy, and technical goals into project roadmaps with clear milestones, ownership, and delivery plans.

  • Lead the development of frameworks for scaling analytical outputs to external partners in ways that protect OpenAI’s models and users.

  • Work with internal partners (e.g., Global Affairs, Legal, GTM, Product, Safety Systems) to align on initiatives that advance AI safety.

  • Build and manage initiatives that connect internal capabilities with the needs of high-impact external stakeholders (e.g., governments, civil society, and enterprise partners).

  • Spearhead efforts to localize threat models, analytical outputs, and safety insights for regional contexts and non-English-speaking partners.

  • Serve as a senior representative of the Strategic Intelligence & Analysis team in key engagements with partners, customers, and senior leadership.

  • Author strategic memos, present analyses, and drive alignment across internal decision-makers on complex safety trade-offs and ecosystem expansion.

  • Define success metrics and KPIs for high-impact safety initiatives and monitor progress across time.

  • Identify execution risks early and create structured mitigation strategies to preserve timelines and outcomes.

You might thrive in this role if you:

  • 10+ years of experience in strategy, operations, trust and safety, intelligence, or international policy roles.

  • Strong track record of launching complex cross-functional initiatives, ideally in a global technology or safety-first environment.

  • Deep understanding of technology policy, AI safety, or emerging risks in digital ecosystems is a strong plus.

  • Are experienced in designing and managing cross-functional projects at the intersection of safety, policy, and technology.

  • Possess exceptional communication skills and can distill complex strategic and technical inputs into crisp narratives for senior stakeholders.

  • Are excited by the mission of proactively shaping the responsible deployment of AI globally and building tools that scale impact.

  • Thrive in ambiguous and fast-evolving contexts, and are able to operate autonomously while aligning with a broader mission.
