Role Overview
Beacon AI is seeking a thoughtful and motivated iOS Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of Murdock, our in-cockpit AI assistant for pilots. This role offers the opportunity to work on real-time, high-impact applications that improve flight safety and efficiency. You’ll collaborate on building mobile features that stream data from aircraft and connect with our backend systems. The ideal candidate will excel in a product-driven environment and have a strong desire to build impactful solutions from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities:
iOS Development: Contribute to the development and maintenance of Murdock’s iOS application, ensuring responsiveness and reliability.
Data Integration: Support the implementation of features that stream real-time data from aircraft in collaboration with backend engineers.
User Experience: Work with designers to build intuitive, effective UI that supports pilots in high-stakes environments.
API Integration: Help integrate internal and external APIs to deliver real-time data within the app.
App Performance: Assist in profiling and improving app performance, particularly with time series or multimedia data.
Debugging and Support: Participate in troubleshooting and fixing bugs to ensure app stability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineers and product to scope and ship features that meet user needs.
Learning & Improvement: Stay curious and engaged with the latest mobile trends and tools to help improve our product over time.
What Will Make You Successful:
3+ years of professional experience building and shipping iOS applications.
Proficient in Swift and familiar with SwiftUI and common iOS frameworks (Combine, Core Location).
Solid understanding of app architecture, asynchronous programming (GCD, async/await), and networking.
Experience integrating APIs and working with real-time or streaming data is a plus.
Comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-paced startup environment.
Curious, mission-driven, and eager to learn from others while taking initiative on projects.
Bonus Points:
A deep interest in aviation and advanced mobility solutions.
Exposure to AWS services or backend integration.
Experience with WebSockets, map SDKs (Mapbox, MapKit), or low-latency streaming.
Interest or background in real-time safety-critical systems.
This is a hybrid role and requires working from our San Carlos, CA office at least three days a week, with the option to work remotely the remaining days.
