We are seeking a highly experienced Senior VTOL Motor Design & Manufacturing Engineer to lead the development and production of advanced electric propulsion systems for vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in designing high-performance electric motors, optimizing for efficiency, power density, and reliability, and overseeing their transition from prototype to full-scale production.
Key Responsibilities:
Motor Design & Development:
Lead the design and development of high-power-density electric motors for VTOL applications.
Conduct electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical simulations to optimize motor performance.
Select appropriate materials, winding techniques, and cooling strategies to enhance efficiency and longevity.
Work closely with power electronics engineers to ensure seamless motor-controller integration.
Manufacturing & Production:
Oversee the transition of motor designs from prototype to full-scale manufacturing.
Develop and refine manufacturing processes, including stator winding, rotor assembly, and quality control.
Implement automated and scalable production techniques to improve cost-effectiveness.
Collaborate with suppliers to source critical components and ensure production consistency.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with aerodynamics, power electronics, battery, and mechanical engineering teams.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
10+ years of experience in electric motor design and manufacturing, preferably in aerospace or high-performance automotive industries.
Expertise in electromagnetic design software (e.g., Ansys Maxwell, JMAG, MotorCAD).
Strong understanding of thermal management, structural mechanics, and materials science.
Hands-on experience with motor prototyping, assembly, and testing.
Familiarity with aerospace industry standards and certification processes.
Strong project management skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in a relevant field.
Experience with axial flux or high-efficiency permanent magnet motor designs.
Knowledge of advanced cooling technologies, such as liquid or phase-change cooling.
Experience working with racing-automotive/ aerospace-grade supply chains and manufacturing partners.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the future of VTOL aircraft and advanced air mobility solutions. If you have a passion for cutting-edge propulsion technology and a track record of delivering high-performance motor systems, we encourage you to apply.
