We're hiring customer focused Applied Scientists, who will work directly with our enterprise customers to deliver cutting-edge solutions, at multiple levels from Senior to Principal!

Who we are

At Gretel, our mission is to build the best developer platform for synthetic data. Gretel's APIs automatically fine-tune AI models to generate synthetic data on-demand while protecting privacy and maintaining the utility and accuracy of the original data.  Our platform solves the data bottleneck problem for developers, data scientists, and AI/ML researchers by enabling generation of synthetic data across a wide range of data types and formats.

We’re a highly collaborative, remote-first company with employees across the US and Canada. Our innovative and transparent culture offers employees the autonomy, tools, and trust to act like owners and we're looking for customer-obsessed Applied Scientists who love solving challenging business problems, to join our mission!

The impact you’ll have

At Gretel, you will be working on ways to make access to data safer, easier and faster without compromising privacy. You'll be delivering cutting-edge solutions to our customers to solve complex business problems and improve AI models without compromising on privacy.

As a customer-facing Applied Scientist delivering highly technical solutions to our strategic enterprise customers, you will collaborate with our Sales, Solutions Architecture, Engineering, Product, Applied Science and CX teams from pre-sales solution development through delivery.  You will serve as a key technical liaison, in partnership with our Machine Learning Solutions Architects, between Gretel and our strategic customers. You will define strategies to address technical and business challenges, build proof-of-concepts, develop repeatable solutions for productization, and assist customers in implementing production-ready systems.

This role sits in Gretel’s Customer Experience (CX) and Delivery team focused on strategic, enterprise customer engagements. This team is a customer-aligned group, focused on strategic delivery and driving real-world impact. While collaborating with the Product Applied Science team on technical development, your primary mission will be solving customer challenges and scaling their success with Gretel’s products.

With 135k+ developers on Gretel’s platform, millions of models trained, and hundreds of billions of records generated, this is your chance to have a massive impact on the synthetic data industry and our strategic enterprise customers.

  • Interact with customers directly to understand their business problems, and collaborate with them to identify and deploy solutions to address them.

  • Be involved in the end-to-end development of reusable solutions and repeatable patterns with our customers.

  • Assist with pre-sales solutioning, accelerate solution delivery, and identify opportunities to solve more complex problems together.

  • Design and develop robust and scalable solutions for highly technical, enterprise business problems.

  • Ability to communicate and convey complex mathematical concepts and considerations, with attention to detail, to non-experts and non-technical executives

  • Actively collaborate with Engineering, Sales, Solutions Architecture, Product, Applied Science, and Marketing as a part of the customer-feedback loop, acting as the voice-of-the-customer, to help our teams better understand our end-users and use cases to design and build more effective and efficient solutions.

  • Plan, build, and facilitate industry-specific use cases, including education in the form of workshops, webinars, technical blogs, whitepapers and developer community engagement.

  • Identify new ideas and improve upon existing concepts within language modeling, generative AI, and privacy enhancing technologies.

  • Stay abreast of developments in AI, actively sharing and trying out new approaches.

  • Mentor colleagues and promote a culture of knowledge sharing.

Requirements

  • M.S. or PhD in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 3+ years of industry experience in building and fine-tuning Machine Learning models.

  • 3+ years of experience in a delivery capacity or directly working with end customers during product adoption

  • Deep experience in machine learning, specifically natural language processing (NLP) and/or generative AI (GANs, transformers, language models, etc.).

  • Programming experience in Python, regularly utilizing Colab or Jupyter notebooks and open source libraries (like Pandas, Tensorflow, and more).

  • Solution-Oriented Mindset – you have a track record of turning complex customer problems into practical, impactful solutions.

  • Excellent communication skills – you will be working directly with customers, so we’re extra mindful about verbal and written communication.

  • Experience working with business stakeholders, whether they’re internal or external customers/clients.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally (up to 20%) for internal and customer meetings, conferences, and industry events, as needed.

Nice to haves

  • Past experience in creating high-performance implementations of deep learning algorithms.

  • Experience with privacy enhancing technologies (differential privacy, federated learning, etc.).

  • Significant experience contributing to or building open-source projects.

  • Experience working with and creating synthetic datasets to be used in production.

  • Industry experience in healthcare/life sciences, financial services, and/or public sector is a plus!
