Who We Are

Nuro exists to better everyday life through robotics. Founded in 2016, Nuro has spent eight years developing autonomous driving (AD) technology and commercializing AD applications. The Nuro Driver™ is our world-class autonomous driving system that combines AD hardware with our generalized AI-first self-driving software. Built to learn and improve through data, the Nuro Driver™ is one of the few driverless autonomous technologies on public roads today.

Nuro has raised over $2B in capital from Fidelity, Bailie Gifford, T. Rowe Price, Google, and other leading investors. We’ve partnered with some of the world’s most respected brands including Uber, FedEx, Domino’s, Walmart, Kroger, and 7-Eleven

About the Team

The mandate of the Behavior team is to use advanced robotic and machine learning techniques to accelerate autonomy progress. In this role, you will be working as a member of the Behavior team with the goal of building visualizations, tooling, and methodologies to better understand, explain, and improve our autonomy and machine learning models.  This includes building on top of existing frameworks and developing custom visualization for model introspection and autonomy understanding.  In this role you will work across a variety of models within the Behavior team including prediction, planning, and foundational world models, as well as LLMs and VLMs.  If you love solving challenging problems, developing intuitive and extensible tooling and interfaces, and are excited about solving the challenges of autonomous driving, come join us!

About the Work

  • Work as a part of an autonomy team and with ML infrastructure engineers to build internal products to be used by autonomy researchers.
  • Develop visualization, introspection, and evaluation tooling to test and improve the quality of our ML models.
  • Collaborate with engineers to determine tooling requirements and deliver intuitive and extensible products that can match the needs of our evolving autonomy solution.
  • Work with custom and off the shelf visualization frameworks and models, and witness their real-world impact on the road

About You

You have deep expertise and prior experience in many of the following areas:

  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and programming skills using C++ and Python, and proficiency with Git for collaboration and code versioning.
  • Ability to work closely across a variety of end-users to define product requirements, iterate, deliver, and maintain effective internal products.
  • Knowledge of common UI frameworks (e.g. Qt, React, Vue.js) for building interactive interfaces and a familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases for logging and querying data.
  • Ability to ramp up quickly to the domain of autonomous driving and machine learning, including the capacity and willingness to learn about fundamental ML and robotics concepts to benefit the quality of the tools you build.
  • Good team player, and an enthusiasm to build systems to support autonomy development.

Bonus Points

  • Familiarity with applying ML visualization and introspection techniques (e.g. layer introspection, attention heatmaps, dimensionality reduction (tSNE, UMAP), or others)
  • Familiarity with cloud services like AWS, GCP, or Azure for scalable infrastructure.
  • Exposure to machine learning using deep neural networks and a familiarity with core ML concepts like attention, transformers, objective functions, feature engineering, etc. and proficiency in a common ML framework (Pytorch, Tensorflow, Keras)
  • You have subject matter expertise and research in one or more of the following areas: Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Robotics, and have some familiarity with the state of the art in ML for autonomous driving and data utilization.
