SENIOR PHARMACY INFORMATICS

Provides leadership and coordination of project teams consisting of management, end-users, information technology (IT) staff, and vendors. Analyses software, hardware, and the wider IT systems to fit the business, clinical, and financial needs of American Hospital Dubai, its subsidiaries, and clients. Produces recommendations for improvements/enhancements in current systems, contributing to system specifications, implementation, and monitoring effectiveness to improve business/clinical efficiency, productivity, and patient/employee satisfaction. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works in collaboration with Pharmacy, Materials Management, and IT leadership and leads the automation of all pharmaceutical processes, including; medication ordering, dispensing, and administration records for both inpatient and outpatient.
  • Leads the Cerner implementation of the Pharmacy module and includes leading the integration of supply chain management with Oracle. Analyses, designs, implements, educates, and supports computer application systems to determine business requirements and user needs in developing solutions.
  • Involves in a broader aspect of safe Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) medication implementation, clinical decision support, problem identification and resolution, and supporting and training our physicians, clinicians, and pharmacists when required.
  • Supports and trains the physicians and pharmacists for all regulatory requirements for medication processes such as Openjet (Narcotics prescribing) and e-prescription.
  • Participates in the planning, development, implementation, upgrading, maintenance, and evaluation of clinical information systems and supply chain integration. Activities may include data collection, cataloging of gathered information, documentation of processes, training, and communication with members of IT, clinical services, and vendors.
  • Analyzes the impact of information technology in clinical work processes and communicates issues and topics with team members, pharmacy, and IT leadership.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary and process improvement teams to identify potential future uses of the information systems for American Hospital Dubai and Satellite Clinics.
  • Coordinates and facilitates ongoing information system evaluation, including user accuracy, data integrity, and system reliability.
  • Participates in post-implementation change evaluation and supports users in maintaining changed processes which include training of physicians, pharmacists, and other users as required.
  • Leads the efforts toward pharmacy module maintenance, including revisions, testing system changes, and integration of changes into the operational environment.
  • Participates in committees, work groups, or task forces as required to facilitate the ongoing process of the design, implementation, and revision of existing or new automated workflows.
  • Oversees and ensures proper procedures are followed for decision support tools requested and new medication builds such as Alerts, order sets, and CPOE.
  • Evaluates the impact the information systems have on daily user workflow and coordinate work with end-users and IT to resolve conflicts between workflow and the information systems.
  • Maintains open communication among clinical user groups to identify issues or problem areas and facilitates resolutions on time.
  • Maintains and updated custom order sets in regard to medications using the vendor-provided evidence.
  • Keeps up with current knowledge of trends and advances in the fields of Pharmacy and Healthcare Informatics, pharmacy practices, regulatory, legal, and the Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) requirements as well as new developments in hardware and software technology, operating systems, applications, operational analysis and protocols.
  • Monitors the iService (Service Requisition Software) ticketing reporting system, working collaboratively with IT team members and responsible for follow-up and closing issues logged with regard to system issues.
  • Adheres to proper change control process and reporting structure.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities for which the individual is qualified, as requested by IT Leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy
  • Registered Pharmacist with the Department/Ministry of Health in the UAE preferred
  • Health Informatics Degree preferred

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of four (4) to six (6) years of experience in an Inpatient Hospital setting
  • Knowledge of hospital, clinical, and ancillary services operating procedures and how departments interrelate
  • Ability to educate and train physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and ancillary staff on system workflow, design, and actual changes proposed
  • Ability to produce appropriate decisions when evaluating change requests for system improvements and determine the feasibility and advisability of system changes
  • Skills in effective process design, development, and implementation of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) related to the medication process from ordering, dispensing, and administration for both inpatient and outpatient.
  • Skills in pharmacy automation, pharmacy knowledge management (e.g. FOB), and hospital information systems with Supply Chain Management preferred
  • Skills in analytical, organizational, communication, and creativity skills in providing the necessary support for complex medication software systems and supply chain system

•   Must have Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy
•   Preferably Registered pharmacist with DOH or MOH UAE but not mandatory
•   Health informatics degree recommended but not mandatory

Specialized Skill

•   Ability to educate and train physicians, pharmacist, nurses and ancillary staff on system workflow, design and actual changes proposed
•   Demonstrates independent decision making as appropriate when evaluating change requests for system improvements and determines feasibility and advisability of system changes
•   Responsible for effective process design, development and implementation of Electronic medical records related to medication process from ordering, dispensing and administration for both inpatient and outpatient

•   Well developed written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills are required
•   Must have competency in using PC hardware and software Skills including Microsoft
word/excel/powerpoint and outlook.
•   Must have interest in computerisation and its potential to improve hospital processes

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

•   Minimum 5 years' experience in inpatient hospital setting post certification
•   Must have knowledge of hospital, clinical and ancillary services operating procedures and how departments interrelate
•   Experience with pharmacy automation, pharmacy knowledge management (eg. FOB) and hospital information system WITH Supply chain management is a plus
•   Experience with maintaining and updating custom order sets in regards to medications using the vendor provided evidence is a plus
