About kaiko

In cancer care, treatment decisions can take many days—but patients don’t have that time. One of the reasons for delays? Cancer patients' data is scattered across many places: doctor’s notes, medical imagery, genomics data. At kaiko, we are developing AI foundational models to bring this data together and integrate it into clinical workflows, enabling doctors to make faster, more effective treatments decisions.

We also collaborate closely with the leading Dutch cancer research institute (NKI) on multiple AI research projects and a joint clinical validation initiative. In 2025, we plan on expanding our partnerships to even more hospitals.

We raised significant long-term funding and have offices in Zurich and Amsterdam. Over the past year, our team has nearly doubled in size, now comprising 70+ people from 25 countries.

About the role

Join our innovative team at the forefront of medical AI, where you'll play a pivotal role in developing cutting-edge products that empower clinicians with faster and more informed decision-making. As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer specializing in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Large Language Models (LLMs), you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of these solutions, from initial concept to successful validation. You'll collaborate closely with a diverse team of ML researchers, software engineers, UX designers, and medical professionals. This position offers the opportunity to work on truly impactful projects that shape the future of healthcare, and can be based in either The Netherlands or Switzerland.

Some areas of responsibility

  • Translate complex clinical challenges into innovative and robust NLP/LLM-based product concepts.
  • Develop advanced LLM solutions for various medical tasks by leveraging techniques such as fine-tuning or prompt engineering, ensuring the most effective approach is applied to each challenge.
  • Design, develop, and advance pipelines for handling large volumes of unstructured text data, including converting the data into effective instruction data, optimized for LLM fine-tuning, and for model evaluation.
  • Drive experimentation and continuous optimization to ensure LLMs are safe, reliable, and effective in clinical settings.

If you are a skilled ML Engineer who is excited about leveraging LLMs to achieve faster and better decision making in the clinic, we think you will love this job.
