RIVR is a Swiss robotics company pioneering Physical AI and robotic solutions to revolutionize last-mile delivery, giving 1 human the power of 1000. Through the combination of artificial neural networks and innovative robot designs with wheels and legs, RIVR aims to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and scalability in last-mile delivery. Founded as Swiss-Mile, the company rebranded to RIVR in 2025 to better reflect its mission of driving the future of intelligent robotics.
Job Description
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the development and the testing of the physical components and systems of our robots. While our Zurich team is focused on developing the first prototype, the Shanghai team is responsible for testing, integration, and preparing for small-scale assembly as we evolve toward production-ready systems. Your role will be essential in helping us move from early prototypes to robust, repeatable builds, ensuring quality, functionality, and readiness for real-world deployment. You will work hands-on with suppliers, validate mechanical components, lead system integration efforts, and support continuous iteration and improvement cycles. This role requires someone adaptable, resourceful, and experienced in fast-changing environments, particularly with electromechanical systems and small-batch production. We are particularly interested in candidates who have demonstrated experience transitioning projects from prototyping and proof-of-concepts to mass produced products. If you are passionate about pushing the boundaries of robotic designs, we invite you to join us in shaping the future of intelligent robotics.

What you’ll be doing

  • Support the mechanical integration and testing of robotic systems to expand functionality and reliability.
  • Establish and improve assembly workflows for small-scale production.
  • Work closely with suppliers to source, evaluate, and adjust components as needed for manufacturability and performance.
  • Work with electronics engineers to integrate printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) into mechanical structures. Perform rigorous testing and quality control on mechanical and electro-mechanical components and systems.
  • Respond quickly to engineering changes and drive implementation of design updates.
  • Document processes and findings to support internal knowledge sharing and traceability.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Zurich-based engineering teams and local suppliers.
  • Managing external contract manufacturers, transferring the design, assembly procedure and technical documentation.

What you must have

  • Bachelor degree or higher in a relevant field such as Engineering, Robotics, Automotive or Aerospace.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in manufacturing, prototyping, or small-batch production of hardware systems.
  • Proficiency in CAD and ability to interpret and modify mechanical drawings.
  • Strong experience working with motors, actuators, and electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Demonstrated experience in communication with contractors, and handling relationships with OEMs/ODMs/contract manufacturers.
  • Experience with quality control of the sourced component and of the assembly process.
  • Strong adaptability and comfort with frequent iteration and design changes.
  • Demonstrated experience in mass manufactured products.Fluent in Mandarin and English to effectively navigate local and international interactions.

Get some bonus points

  • Master degree or higher in a relevant field such as Engineering, Robotics, Automotive or Aerospace.
  • Experience in contract manufacturing or startup hardware environments.
  • Familiarity with integrating mechanical systems with electronics and control units.
  • Exposure to international teams and workflows (e.g., EU or US-based).Background in quality assurance or supplier development.
RIVR is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team that values every perspective. If you’re passionate about driving innovation in robotics and creating meaningful impact, we encourage you to apply and bring your unique self to our team.
