Your role at Sephora: 

As the Senior Manager of the Machine Learning Engineering team, you will work on a broad set of domains that power a data-driven transformation of our standard business procedures across channels. Support the Data Science team in deploying novel algorithms along with optimizing existing machine learning systems to maximize their value and increase consumer satisfaction at every brand touchpoint. Mentor a team of diverse and entrepreneurial engineers - shaping their career trajectory through your expertise. You will be a thought leader and develop tooling and best practices to enable Sephora teams to efficiently develop and deploy AI/ML applications.

 

We are looking for someone who is a technology-agnostic polymath—committed to a lifelong journey of learning and exploration of new scientific ideas—and will bring thoughtful perspectives, empathy, creativity, and a positive attitude to solve problems at scale. This role is ideal for someone looking to extend their algorithm design and software engineering skills into a part advisor, part mentor, part business leader, part IC role - all while leading the ML Engineering team

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for managing and executing AI/ML model operationalization across the enterprise, including acting as a center of excellence to drive adoption of ML/AI by autonomous, domain specific engineering pods.
  • Optimizes existing ML software systems
  • Develops reusable tools and automated processes to support development and deployment of ML systems
  • Architect, build, maintain, and improve suite of new and existing AI/ML applications and systems.
  • Keeps up to date with technical productionization of ML system
  • Implements tools to facilitate monitoring, logging and testing algorithms and technical performance of ML systems (automated, performance, A/B testing). 
  • Collaborates cross-functionally with product and engineering

We are excited about you if you have:

  • 10+ years’ experience in software/application engineering
  • 6+ years’ experience developing and deploying machine learning systems into production
  • 5+ years’ experience with at least one cloud platform (Azure, GCP, AWS) and associated ML services, including Databricks
  • 3+ years’ experience architecting end-to-end ML/AI systems in an enterprise environment
  • 2+ years’ experience mentoring and managing ML engineers, data scientists, or core engineering talent
  • Strong understanding of fundamental computer science concepts, software design best practices, software development lifecycle and common machine learning design patterns
  • A leader in modern software engineering methodologies, e.g. Agile, unit testing, test automation, continuous integration, code reviews, design documentation
  • Exceptional in advanced Python programming for AI
  • Expertise working with: Spark, Kafka, and GenAI models and services
  • Solid understanding of foundational machine learning concepts and algorithms, including GenAI
  • Proven experience deploying stable, real-time ML systems 
  • Experience optimizing the model training process for deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, Keras or similar
  • Retail experience is a plus

The annual base salary range for this position is $187,920.00 - $232,000.00 The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, the applicant’s qualifications for the position; years of relevant experience; specific and unique skills; level of education attained; certifications or other professional licenses held; other legitimate, non-discriminatory business factors specific to the position; and the geographic location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will perform the job.  Individuals employed in this position may also be eligible to earn bonuses.  Sephora offers a generous benefits package to full-time employees, which includes comprehensive health, dental and vision plans; a superior 401(k) plan, various paid time off programs; employee discount/perks; life insurance; disability insurance; flexible spending accounts; and an employee referral bonus program.
