Job Summary

Western Governors University is hiring a Senior Machine Learning Operations Engineer (Senior MLOps Engineer) to join our team onsite in Salt Lake City, Utah. This role focuses on supporting and optimizing our Databricks-based MLOps platform, “Marvin,” which enables scalable, reliable, and efficient deployment of machine learning models with embedded best practices.

As a Senior MLOps Engineer, you’ll assist data scientists in migrating models to production, ensuring smooth transitions while minimizing disruptions for the broader team. This role requires a strong problem-solver with Databricks expertise who thrives on collaboration and delivering user-focused solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert support for Marvin, addressing platform issues and guiding users.

  • Facilitate model migrations to production while ensuring adherence to best practices.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve Databricks and platform-related issues.

  • Maintain and optimize platform performance, handling bug fixes and backlog management.

  • Conduct training to upskill data scientists on platform use.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand and fulfill project needs.

  • Contribute technical expertise to platform updates and feature enhancements.

  • Develop and maintain clear, comprehensive documentation.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

  • 6+ years of experience in Databricks and/or machine learning operations.

  • Expert in Databricks and Python.

  • Proficiency with PySpark, GitHub Actions, and MLflow.

  • Strong understanding of machine learning principles and operations.

  • Problem-solving mindset with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Commitment to quality and adherence to best practices.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with DevOps practices and related tools.

  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools like Jira.

  • Expertise in integrating third-party applications with existing infrastructure.
