Join TALPA Solutions, where we use cutting-edge technology to revolutionise the way industries predict and analyse equipment performance. As a leader in providing predictive analytics for fixed and mobile assets, we cover a wide range of industries including mining, construction, and logistics. Our platform integrates real-time and historical data to generate valuable insights and improve machine performance for our clients. Come be a part of a team that's not afraid to push boundaries and have some fun while we do it!

You are an expert in time series analysis of IIoT data and want to make things happen in a fast evolving startup? Your models recognize anomalies in multivariate and multiscale time series and you have first experiences with large language models? Then this job offer is the right one for you and exciting challenges in the field of root cause analysis, predictive and preventive maintenance for heavy industry are waiting for you.

In a growing team of Data Scientists, ML and ML Ops Engineers, you will contribute to our development in reducing downtime, detecting activities and production cycles and implement new business use cases. Together with the team, you will deploy these solutions on our cloud infrastructure and roll them out for many thousands of machines in the heavy and construction industry.

At TALPA, you can create a real impact and develop customized and highly scalable analytics solutions in an environment of rapidly evolving technologies that deliver real added value in the field.

Your mission:

  • You will be in charge of creating effective algorithms that provide actionable insights from raw machine data, covering a variety of topics such as predictive maintenance, machine activity detection, and anomaly detection.

  • You will be working with noisy, unlabelled, and diverse data - making full use of your experience in handling time series, image, and text data.

  • You work collaboratively, challenging assumptions and contributing to thoughtful discussions, ensuring the team arrives at the best possible answers together.

  • You will be regularly engaging with domain experts and customers, making it important to be both a people person and a techie who can bridge the gap between complex data and real-world needs.

  • You will use sound software engineering and quality practices across the entire stack. Writing production-ready code will be a second-nature to you.

Your skills:

  • At least five years of experience (past Master’s degree) developing and deploying ML models to solve real-world problems in either industrial, commercial or academic settings.

  • A solid theoretical understanding of machine learning algorithms and the statistical principles behind them.

  • Experience with multi-variate and multi-scale time series sensor data.

  • Python data science and ML stack: NumPy, pandas / polars / spark, scikit-learn, Tensorflow / PyTorch, Docker, Linux, SQL, AWS / GCP / Azure.

  • Proven experience in handling all phases of ML model creation: from gathering requirements and processing raw data through to model development, deployment, and validation.

  • Experience building deep learning models with TensorFlow or PyTorch.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to explain complex technical problems to non-technical audiences.

  • Self-motivated learner with the ability to thrive in an interdisciplinary, diverse environment.

  • Team-oriented software development experience, including mastery of object-oriented programming in Python and ability to build data science projects from scratch.

  • Willingness to work from the office in Essen Rüttenscheid once or twice per week (hybrid).

Nice to have:

  • Experience with RAG systems, AI agents, large language models (ChatGPT, Llama, Claude, DeepSeek), HuggingFace, and LangChain. Experience applying these techniques to both time series and text data is particularly valuable.

  • Published research papers, particularly in machine learning or artificial intelligence.

  • Visible record of contributing to OS projects or personal projects on git.
