Position Summary

CVS Health’s Analytics & Behavior Change (A&BC) is an organization within CVS Health working to solve some of the most challenging problems at the intersection of technology, analytics, and healthcare. A&BC leverages advanced analytics (AI, ML, LLM), user-centric product design, and a hypothesis-driven top-down approach to transform data into actionable and customer-centric insights, predictions, and products. The Care Delivery Analytics & Behavior Change team is part of the overall Analytics and Behavior Change organization (A&BC). The team plays a key role in shaping the future of CVS Health’s growing care delivery ecosystem (i.e., HealthSpire) by collaborating with key business areas across CVS Health to deliver impactful analytic solutions, insights, predictions, and digital products. We are a fast-paced, collaborative, disruptive and fun team focused on building innovation that aims to make CVS’s healthcare ecosystem better for all those involved in it. The Sr. Data Scientist role within CVS Health Care Delivery Growth team is on the front line of driving innovation and directly impacting business decisions.

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of healthcare delivery. Your work will directly contribute to improving health outcomes for our members and enhancing the overall patient experience. This team works with business partners to understand their goals and objectives and generates insights connecting analytical results with business problems/goals and present recommendations to internal teams and business partners. You will get the opportunity to build ML models to predict future outcomes, solve highly complex business problems, and support decision making. In addition, you will also analyze large data sets in real-time databases, develop insights, and influence business operations to enhance performance.

The ideal candidate is a flexible collaborator and team player who can contribute to all phases of the project including data preparation, data cleaning and interpretation, analysis, model building, quality assessments and presentation of results.

Position Responsibilities

  • Develops and/or uses algorithms and statistical predictive models and determines analytical approaches and modeling techniques to evaluate scenarios and potential future outcomes.
  • Performs analyses of structured and unstructured data to solve multiple and/or complex business problems utilizing advanced statistical techniques and mathematical analyses and broad knowledge of the organization and/or industry.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional business partners to understand their problems and goals, develop predictive modeling, statistical analysis, data reports and performance metrics.
  • Develops and participates in presentations and consultations to existing and prospective constituents on analytics results and solutions.
  • Interacts with internal and external peers and managers to exchange complex information related to areas of specialization.
  • Uses strong knowledge in algorithms and predictive models to investigate problems, detect patterns and recommend solutions.
  • Uses strong programming skills to explore, examine and interpret large volumes of data in various forms.
  • Join forces with the Data Engineering team to ensure the availability and integrity of data required for analytics, ML ops for deployment, and identify opportunities for data integration, automation, and augmentation.


Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years' experience in data science and advanced analytics
  • 5+ years' experience writing complex and efficient SQL code and leveraging exploratory data analysis techniques to develop insights from data
  • 3+ years' experience with Python
  • 3+ years' experience building ML models ( e.g., Vertex AI or Amazon Sagemaker )
  • 2+ years' experience leveraging Cloud technologies (e.g. GCP, Azure, AWS, Snowflake, Databricks)
  • Proven experience overseeing end-to-end model development from ideation through solution development to deployment/monitoring including in standard and advanced ML modeling techniques (e.g., Regression Models, Decision Trees, Neural Networks, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of the US healthcare system including provider, payor, and regulatory landscape.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience at a top-tier management consulting firm or an in-house consulting role
  • Strong business acumen and problem-solving skills with ability to communicate technical concepts and implications to business partners
  • Forward-thinking, anticipates and prevents problems and roadblocks before they occur
  • Solid understanding of the US healthcare system including provider, payor, and regulatory landscape and understanding of Medicare and Medicaid programs. Thorough understanding of care delivery solutions (e.g., Value Based Care, In-Home Evaluations, e-consults, etc.)
  • Proven attention to detail, critical thinking, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a cross-functional team
  • Experience within an agile product development framework


Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Economics, Physics, Engineering, or related discipline
  • Master’s degree preferred

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$83,430.00 - $222,480.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
