Vanderlande provides baggage handling systems for 600 airports around the globe, capable of moving over 4 billion pieces of baggage around the world per year. For the parcel market our systems handle 52 million parcels per day. All these systems generate data. Your Position 

You will work as a Data Scientist in the Process Optimization team. This hybrid, multi-cultural team already has Data scientists, Data Engineers, a DevOps engineer, a QA engineer, an Architect, an UX designer, a Scrum Master, and a Product Owner.  

You will work with domain experts, engineers, and other end users to understand and translate their needs into proposals for data services to improve process performance. You will explore the feasibility of these solutions and share the learning with the team and the rest of the company. 

In your role, you will work flexibly on analyzing data, creating models and testing the results. You will discuss the conclusions you reach with users and customers, to continuously improve the insights that your models provide. 

 

Your responsibilities: 

  • You will participate in and lead part of the research and development of our products and services by designing models and developing algorithms to solve real world problems 

  • You will work together with your team on developing AI-enhanced process mining techniques, data driven decision support and anomaly detection-based solutions 

  • You collaborate with engineering and domain experts throughout the company to enhance our clients' operations and decision-making processes through rigorous research and cutting-edge data science techniques 

  • You will participate in productizing and deploying algorithms 

  • You will stay at the forefront of research advancements in data science, process mining, and event knowledge graphs, and proactively pioneer new research approaches to enhance our offerings 

  • You work together with your fellow data scientist located in the Netherlands as well as colleagues from other locations to share experiences and learn from each other 

Your Profile 

  • You must have at least a Master’s degree in Data Science or Computer Science 

  • You have a strong expertise in process mining or process optimization and data analysis for identifying process anomalies, process improvement and/or optimizing processes 

  • You have a research-oriented mindset and extensive knowledge of data science which you can demonstrate through your work experience, relevant degrees, or personal projects 

  • You are experienced in solving real-world problems with data science techniques  

  • You are familiar working with CRISP-DM cycles 

  • You have knowledge and experience with MLOps (E2E Data and Machine Learning Pipelines)  

  • You are familiar working with Git 

  • Experience working with colleagues located in around the world is a plus 

  • Experience with Spark (PySpark or Scala or Java) or Databricks is a plus 

  • Our ML (Machine Learning) systems are written in Python, using libraries like pandas, scikit-learn, MLFlow and TensorFlow. The ML systems run on Azure. Experience with a similar stack is a plus. 

  • Experience in event knowledge graphs is a plus 

  • You are fluent in written and spoken English

This position offers a competitive salary range of € 5400 to € 6250 gross  per month (excluding 8% holiday allowance). Through exceeding performance expectations, you even have the possibility to grow outside this scale.
