Takeda is looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our Advanced Analytics and Digital Engineering team in Takeda Vaccines.  We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist who can use their Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Data Wrangling and Presentation skills to help deliver insights for our most difficult questions. You will work with the rest of the team to enable Takeda to continue its journey of data maturity, delivering outputs while educating others. You will be helping to solve some of the biggest question at Takeda and for healthcare in general.

POSITION OBJECTIVES:

  • Independently perform complex analysis using modern Data Science techniques against structured or unstructured data and report results back to generate insights to Takeda.

  • Provides leadership and expertise in data analysis, methods and accuracy for data science studies and deployments.  This leadership is not just for this team but as a subject matter expert for others working on data as well.  This will include areas like Vaccines, Research and Development, Manufacturing, Medical and Commercial.

  • Apply machine learning, deep learning, computer vision and other advanced techniques while performing Data Analysis engagements. This is against structured and un-structured data sets, at small and large scale.

  • Provide mentorship and leadership to other Data Scientists, Data Engineers and Data Specialists across Vaccines at Takeda as we elevate our data IQ across the organization.

  • Deliver critical analysis against Takeda’s toughest data problems to give us critical insight to the organization’s largest questions.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Perform machine learning, deep learning, and other advanced data techniques at a level of quality that can be defended by peers at a PHD level across the organizations.  As a senior role, the quality of this work will also need to be ready to presentations at the highest levels of Takeda Leadership.

  • Introduce novel and state-of-the-art computational techniques to other teams and scientists to improve capabilities for data analysis with the purpose of deriving high accuracy insight from available datasets more efficiently. 

  • Understanding and usage of different Supervised and Unsupervised learning techniques, their biases, how and when to apply them and which methods are the best for a particular analysis.

  • Ability to wrangle raw data sets into a format that can have advanced methods applied against the resulting data.

  • Work on tough problems independently to bring insights to very difficult questions using advanced technical methods.  As a senior member, you will also need to guide more junior resources through their difficult problems as well.

  • Works on toughest problems in the group with other team members.  A senior data scientist will be the go-to person in their area to help guide the use of advanced methods to solve some of the largest questions at Takeda.  Their work will be the basis of many downstream activities once validated.

  • Demonstrates advanced tooling and techniques to other organizations throughout the company.

EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

Required

  • Master’s Degree or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science or equivalent

  • 6+ years’ experience or a PhD and 3+ years’ experience

  • Expertise with the Application of Machine Learning and Deep Learning

  • Up-to-date specialized knowledge of data wrangling, manipulation, and management technologies

  • Ability to write, speak and lead in the English language

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, business acumen with problem solving and analytical skills

  • Experience with Spark

  • Ability to manipulate voluminous data with different degree of structuring across disparate sources to build and communicate actionable insights for internal or external parties

  • Possesses strong personal skills to portray information

  • Ability to work in an agile and rapid changing environment with high quality deliverables

  • Experience with two of the following languages:  Python, R, Java or Scala

  • Experience with deep learning frameworks:  TensorFlow, PyTorch

Preferred

  • Experience in a scientific environment

  • Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL datastores

  • Experience with Reinforcement Learning

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$133,000.00 - $209,000.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location. 

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
