Senior Analyst, Data & AI Ethics - Research

The AI Enablement team, part of the Data and Analytics function, is responsible for ensuring governance practices that support the company’s leadership and delivery of world-class data and AI enabled solutions. The Ethics Research and Compliance analyst will be a critical member of this team, supporting the enterprise with building and delivering ethical and trustworthy technology.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving awareness and thought leadership on the standards and regulations on the horizon. Working closely with legal and compliance teams, the candidate will support the enterprise-wide awareness of global regulatory trends and developments from leading organizations like the ISO, IEEE, W3C, and OECD. The ideal candidate is a passionate legal and ethics researcher with a knack for influencing audiences through written communication, and other mediums. The candidate will play a critical role in the translation of legal requirements into technical policies and implementation plans.

About the Role:

  • Partnering with our legal counsel, you will monitor and report on the latest developments in legislative and regulatory instruments as it pertains to key ethics principles – translating into technical policies and requirements

  • Partnering with our technology teams on the identification, development, and scaling of best practices, tools and techniques to comply and accelerate Thomson Reuters’ leadership in ethical data use and AI

  • Working closely with Data and Model stewardship network and stakeholders as a specialist consultant on data and AI projects across the organization – advising on upcoming legal and related trends and compliance best practices

  • Ensure that data and AI ethics policies and guiding standards are inclusive of the requirements necessary to meet the growing demands of data and AI related regulation and best practices – drafting new policies where necessary

  • Provide thought leadership, executive summaries, and insights on data and AI ethics and governance matters to colleagues across the organization – contribute to educational resources

  • Participate in data and AI governance policy and standard creation, management, and analyzing potential impacts of policy choices under consideration

About You:

  • Strong familiarity with developments and trends in ethical data and trustworthy AI – e.g. EU, UN, and other major players 

  • Demonstrated understanding of AI governance activities including oversight mechanisms, documentation, development processes

  • Expert researcher and persuasive communicator – primarily in the written word

  • Strong understanding of global data and AI privacy principles and regulations (experience working with GDPR/Canadian Privacy Act an advantage)

  • Strong familiarity with data management, ModelOps and traditional software development life cycles – an asset

  • You are a solutions-oriented critical thinker with strong influencing and networking skills

  • You demonstrate the ability to discover solutions for technical/business issues and to develop actionable insights and recommendations

  • You have the capability to work autonomously and make independent decisions to meet deliverables with minimal oversight

  • 2-3 years of experience, ideally within the domains of data management and responsible AI, or related work

  • Considered a strong asset – Masters degree or higher - higher education and certifications within the fields of technology law, data management, machine learning and AI, and/or technology ethics
