Title: Senior AI Engineer, Energy

Basic Function:

The Senior AI Engineer, Energy will be involved in various functions including developing AI agents for SB Energy. The ML engineer will apply their skills and knowledge in data science, machine learning, statistics, programming, and software engineering to develop and productionize AI agents to assess site performance, identify reasons for underperformance, retrieve documents on demand, interpret fault codes, automatically create logs based on alarms, track spare consumption rates, manage inventory, schedule and follow up on maintenance items, track and alert on trading-related items, predict future faults based on multiple alarms, provide hail alert notifications, and assist with data trending using time series historian data. The successful candidate will be an integral part of a team responsible for optimizing the profitability of a growing portfolio of operating assets. This position will collaborate with Asset Management, Operations, Risk Management, and Engineering teams, identify their needs, and transform them into agent features.

Responsibilities:

• Design and fine-tune LLMs using advanced NLP techniques to develop AI agents, ensuring the agent can understand complex user queries with high accuracy. User queries can include pulling data from various databases, policies, and processes. The agents will be used for a wide variety of tasks, including legal document reviews, supply chain document reviews, engineering document reviews, code reviews, forecast model performance analysis, asset trading performance analysis, data pipeline failure root-cause analysis, and answering data-related questions from the user using natural language. The agents should be able to provide real-time updates on the status of various assets, generate and analyze operational performance reports, and use MS Teams for automated communications and troubleshooting assistance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve their models (forecasting, anomaly detection, energy optimization, classification) by using advanced reasoning models and improve pipeline efficiency through simplification.
• Deploy models to production for use in SB Energy’s software/digital platform and its users using data science and ML engineering best
• Apply machine learning principles to train and fine-tune the AI agent, ensuring it learns new API syntaxes and adapts to evolving data analysis and retrieval requirements.
• Evaluate the AI agent's performance using benchmarking metrics and utilize these insights to iteratively improve the digital platform AI agents’ understanding and response generation capabilities.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, mathematics, or a related field
• Experience with Python and basic libraries for machine learning such as scikit-learn and pandas.
• Experience with LLM, machine learning, and deep learning frameworks such as Open AI API, XGBoost, PyTorch, or Keras
• Experience with cloud-based ML AI services.
• Experience using frameworks to automate, accelerate, and sustain the machine learning lifecycle.
• Experienced in general machine learning modeling including multivariate time series forecasting, stochastic modeling and optimization, and Monte Carlo simulations.
• 5-8 years of ML engineering experience with preferably 2-3 years in the energy Market.

 Location: Houston, TX, San Francisco Bay Area, CA, Denver, CO, or remote option available. The position may require up to 10% domestic travel.

Base Pay-100000-145000

The pay range mentioned above is a guideline. We tailor each offer based on your unique skills, experience, location, and market benchmarks—while ensuring internal parity across our team. In addition to competitive base pay, total compensation may include a discretionary annual bonus, a long-term incentive plan aligned with our ownership mindset, and a market leading comprehensive health and wellness benefits package.
