About The RoleTo meet growing demands from the Japanese market, especially from the top Japanese logistics companies, we are now looking for a new engineering leader who could manage ongoing and upcoming projects in Japan. The projects are expected to be complex and dynamic, involving external and internal stakeholders from customers to system integrators to Dexterity’s core engineering teams in the US. You will play a critical role in coordinating successful product development and deployment at scale. Responsibilities (including but not limited to):Work with HQ’s robot design engineering teams to facilitate the creation of Robot hardware design and interface requirements that fulfill product application needsAssess the feasibility of new robot hardware features or configurations of Dexterity Products required by Japanese customers Support implementation of hardware features by doing conceptual design as well as detailed designDesign customer site layout using CAD to enable all stakeholders to understand Japanese customers’ hardware requirementsWork with material handling suppliers and lead the development of customized material handling products, such as telescopic conveyors, slopes, or liftersWork with Tier 1 mechanical assembly service providers for localizing robot system manufacturingWrite and maintain design documentation that communicates hardware design, capabilities, and proceduresDesign JIGs and Fixtures needed to overcome any problems arising from Japanese customer sitesIdentify and highlight technical risk areas and mitigation strategies in partnership with key stakeholdersTroubleshoot hardware-related issues of Dexterity systems and, if required, escalate matters to HQ
Desired Experience, Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesBS/MS/Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Machine Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Control, Robotics or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.Experience with CAD and BOM systemExperience in small to large-scale industrial mechanical assembly designKnowledge of robotics and related fields (classical controls, motion dynamics, kinematics, materials, machine components, linear algebra, filtering, etc) a plusKnowledge of electric circuitry for motion control I/O is a plus
Good grasp of networking and computer systems concepts is a plusFamiliarity with Linux, is a plusExperience with Git and modern CI pipelines, is a plusFamiliarity with wide array of software stack technologies (Docker, k8s, etc) is a plusFamiliarity with interprocess communication (shared bus, pubsub, redis, gRPC, etc) is a plusExcellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Also able to move parts, tools, equipment and materials in and out of vehicles.Lift 40 pounds regularly; occasionally lift up to 75 pounds with assistance.See and judge distances and space relationships to successfully complete detailed activities to fine tolerances, including reading written plans and other documents.
