Researcher in Natural Language Processing (NLP) / Text Simplification / Text Summarization

Research and development of natural language processing systems. Research and development of systems for simplifying and summarizing multilingual texts. Development of content subtitling systems and fine-tuning of text-to-speech systems. Creation of "benchmarks" for tasks of simplifying multilingual texts. Development and fine-tuning of systems for the evaluation of simplification and summarization of texts, among others. Integration of libraries developed in specific applications.

Research fellow to work in the project IDEAL Inclusive Democratic Engagement and Language Technologies in Europe funded by the Horizon Europe Programme. The fellow will develop cutting-edge technology in the area of text simplification for democratic engagement. He/she will apply current methods in NLP to advance the state of the art in text simplification, summarization, and other information access technologies.

Qualifications

GENERAL

Be in possession of a doctorate (PhD)

Not having been separated by means of a disciplinary file from the service of any of the public administrations, nor having been disqualified by a final judgment for the performance of public functions. In the case of being a national of another country, not being disqualified or in an equivalent situation or having been subjected to a disciplinary or equivalent sanction that prevents, in their country, access to public jobs in the same terms .

SPECIFIC

Knowledge of English

Knowledge of Spanish and/or Catalan

Experience in "Large Language Models (LLMs)" for tasks of classification, generation, and simplification of texts

Experience in software projects

Experience with language processing libraries and models

Immediate availability to start work

Accreditation of sufficient knowledge of Catalan for teaching

Decree 128/2010, of 14 September, on the accreditation of the linguistic knowledge of the teaching staff of the universities of the university system of Catalonia, provides that the university professors accredit a sufficient knowledge of Catalan, both in oral expression and in 'written, in accordance with the demands of their academic tasks. At the time of signing the contract, the selected person will be able to choose between the accreditation of knowledge of Catalan or the postponement of this accreditation for a maximum period of two years. Accreditation of this linguistic competence and participation in the training actions necessary to achieve and maintain it are part of the teachers' ordinary and assessable obligations.

In the case of teaching in third languages, it is recommended to start language training in order to be able to interact with students, teaching and research staff and administration and service staff in any of the working languages ​​and to be able to attend to the linguistic rights of the community university It is also recommended to start this training because if at some point you are assigned to teach in Catalan or Spanish, after two years have passed since hiring, you will need to prove sufficient knowledge.

Selection criteria

Academic and professional training: 0-20 points.

Research experience (publications, projects, patents, "shared tasks", etc.) : 0-30

Adaptation to the proposed profile (similar projects, experience in European projects, etc.): 0-30 points.

Other merits (organization of scientific events, international collaboration, seminars, presentations, mentoring activities, etc.) : 0-20 points.

The minimum score to pass the selection process is: 80 points
