Research Scientist, Machine Learning (PhD) Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, design, operations, infrastructure) to build innovative application experiences
• Implement custom user interfaces using latest programming techniques and technologies
• Develop reusable software components for interfacing with back-end platforms
• Analyze and optimize code for quality, efficiency, and performance
• Lead complex technical or product efforts and provide technical guidance to peers
• Architect efficient and scalable systems that drive complex applications
• Identify and resolve performance and scalability issues
• Work on a variety of coding languages and technologies
• Establish ownership of components, features, or systems with expert end-to-end understanding

Minimum Qualifications

• Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta
• 2+ years of programming experience in a relevant language OR a PhD + 9 months programming experience in a relevant language
• Track record of setting technical direction for a team, driving consensus and successful cross-functional partnerships
• Experience building maintainable and testable code bases, including API design and unit testing techniques

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with programming languages such as Python, R, MATLAB
• Demonstrated software engineer experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub)
• Proven track record of achieving results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at workshops or conferences such as KDD, NeurIPS, ICML, WWW, ACL, ICLR, CVPR or similar
• Exposure to architectural patterns of large scale software applications
• Research and/or hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas: Machine Learning, NLP, Recommendation Systems, Pattern Recognition, Data Mining, Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence or other relevant fields
• Interpersonal experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment
• Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions, tradeoffs, and different perspectives to determine a path forward
