Our team, within Reality Labs at Meta, brings novel experiences to life on Meta’s AR devices, e.g. Orion. We were closely involved in the development of multimodal Meta AI on Orion, and we are currently working on the next gen AR glasses. We are looking for upcoming scientists and researchers with great interest in embedded software development and hardware acceleration to enable on-device contextual AI within the performance, power and form-factor constraints of AR glasses.Within the vast domain of contextual AI, we are currently focussing on three key areas: computer vision, audio interaction, and large language models. As a Research Scientist intern, you will help us advance the SOTA in one or more of these areas.Research Intern, On-Device Contextual AI on Orion and Next Gen AR Glasses (PhD) ResponsibilitiesBuild and characterize experimental HW+SW systems on AR devices and device prototypesDevelop embedded firmware and software in RTOS and mobile operating systems, e.g. AOSPCollaborate with other researchers and engineers across various disciplinesMinimum QualificationsCurrently has, or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related fieldProgramming and simulation experience with languages such as C/C++ and PythonExperience with computer architecture and HW/SW co-design and co-optimizationMust obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain on-going work authorization during employmentPreferred QualificationsExperience in HW+SW system prototyping using embedded device prototypes and FPGAsExperience in operating systems, drivers, and embedded firmware developmentExperience working in a machine learning framework, e.g. PyTorchExperience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environmentDemonstrated experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub).Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op For those who live in or expect to work from California if hired for this position, please click here for additional information. About Meta Meta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses. When Facebook launched in 2004, it changed the way people connect. Apps like Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp further empowered billions around the world. Now, Meta is moving beyond 2D screens toward immersive experiences like augmented and virtual reality to help build the next evolution in social technology. People who choose to build their careers by building with us at Meta help shape a future that will take us beyond what digital connection makes possible today—beyond the constraints of screens, the limits of distance, and even the rules of physics. $7,313/month to $11,293/month + benefitsIndividual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
