The team you'll be part of:

Nokia Bell Labs is the world-renowned research arm of Nokia, having invented many of the foundational technologies that underpin information and communications networks and all digital devices and systems. This research has produced ten Nobel Prizes, five Turing Awards and numerous other awards.

The Network Systems team is part of the Network Systems and Security Research (NSSR) lab and is located in Massy (20km south of Paris). It welcomes each year a small number of outstanding visiting PhD students and Masters II (or equivalent) graduate students for their mandatory internship.

What you will learn and contribute to:

As part of the NSSR UNEXT research (Unified Networking Experience) the Network Systems department works (among other topics) on solutions to automate and simplify access for any company to 5G/6G services. This access needs to scale for thousands of businesses of all sizes. It is therefore necessary to set up an automation of both the expression of need, the service offer, the deployment and assurance parts. The target being to gradually move towards fully autonomous services.

Objective of the research internship:

During the first phase of the internship, the student will learn the main concepts around 5G mobile networks, as well as study the state of the art for building knowledge graphs and methods for evaluating graph-RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation).

The internship will be about LLM-based building of knowledge graphs applied to mobile network use cases: methods and implementation of a knowledge graph including consistency rules between mobile network parameters, how to automate the updates of this knowledge graph and what kind of exposure can be provided for graph query including APIs and possibly the use of LLMs (Large Language Models). Of particular interest are the research into the methods for evaluating the quality (reliability), usability of the resulting graphs. The internship may include submission of a paper about the works results.

Study the State of the Art in building knowledge graphs and methods for evaluating graph-RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation).

Propose and implement a solution for automatically building and updating (handling the lifecycle) a mobile network systems graph (which includes thousands of features, their dependencies).

Research into the methods for evaluating the quality (reliability), usability of the resulting graphs. The internship may include submission of a paper about the works results.

You have:

- Academic Level / Diploma : Master/Engineering degree or Equivalent (Bac+5)

- Domain / Speciality: Computer Science/Machine Learning or Telecommunications

- Languages / Systems: - Good knowledge and experience in Python / JavaScript / WebAPIs / bash shell scripts. C Language would be a plus.

- Other Knowledge/Specialties: Software Engineering, AI/ML Frameworks, Docker, Kubernetes

- Good proficiency in English is a must, the NSSR lab members are located in France, US, Germany, Hungary, Finland and Sweden.

It would be nice if you also had:

- 4G or 5G basic knowledge

-  notions of knowledge graphs, graph-databases

For legal reasons this internship is only available as part of a contract (“convention de stage”) with a French University or engineering school.
