Meta is looking for a Research Engineer to join its translation team. We conduct focused research and engineering to build state-of-the-art translation models and deploy them to products like IG Reels, comments, stickers and WhatsApp to help users connect and make content understandable around the world. We are looking for engineers who have a background in NLP and/or machine translations, with experience in areas like LLM post training, fine-tuning, LLM evaluations, reinforcement learning, knowledge distillation, model quantization, efficient training and inference.
Research Engineer, Language - AI Translations Responsibilities
- Design methods, tools, and infrastructure to push forward the state of the art in language translations.
- Define research goals informed by product and business goals.
- Contribute to experiments, including designing experimental details, developing reusable code, running evaluations, organizing results, and deploying to production.
- Work with a large and globally distributed team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- Research experience in machine learning, deep learning, and/or natural language processing.
- Experience with developing machine learning models at scale from inception to business impact.
- Programming experience in Python and hands-on experience with frameworks such as PyTorch.
- Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- A PhD in AI, computer science, data science, or related technical fields.
- Direct experience in NLP, machine translation, or LLM research.
- First author publications at peer-reviewed AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, ICCV, and ACL).

$70.67/hour to $208,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
