What You Will Achieve

As a member of our team, you'll use science and technology to design, characterize and develop the solid form of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) and drug product formulations from discovery to commercial launch.   You will be able to leverage your existing scientific knowledge, as well as develop in new areas, to evaluate the chemical & physical stability, bioperformance and manufacturability of the drug product across a diverse range of therapeutic areas.

How You Will Achieve It  

  • Apply technical and functional knowledge to design experiments, and independently completes work within own work group/ project team, working on multiple subprojects in parallel.  

  • Closely collaborate with Discovery partners to evaluate molecular attributes relevant to drug delivery and influence team strategies.

  • Design and develop fit for purpose preclinical formulations (traditional and enabling) to enable robust candidate selection and progression.

  • Assess and clearly communicate drug delivery and performance risks (using in silico, in vitro and in vivo data as well as sound scientific principles) take out and take out for similar job descriptions. 

  • Act as a technical and scientific resource within own project team/ discipline. 

  • Identify opportunities to use engineering knowledge and computational tools to help solve project challenges. 

  • Ensure own work, meets agreed project deliverables and stakeholder needs, maintaining quality and reporting findings either verbally or in written format, both within DPD and the wider Pharmaceutical Sciences project team. 

  • Participate on multidisciplinary project teams and collaborate with colleagues to define and implement characterization strategies according to project timelines. 

  • Participate on Pharmaceutical Sciences product development teams in the development of novel drug products. 

  • Author regulatory submissions and support the patenting of Pfizer’s intellectual property. 

  • Oversee and design the work packages of external partners conducting laboratory studies and provide tactical guidance and critical analysis of raw data.  

  • Work in multi-disciplinary teams composed of scientists with experience and expertise in pharmaceutical sciences, biology, pharmacology, synthetic organic chemistry, chemical engineering, material science, etc. 

  • Develop hypotheses, design experiments to test hypothesis and provide interpretation of data to assist in resolving challenging physicochemical problems associated with drug delivery systems. 

  • Develop strategic collaborations with academic and industrial researchers for addressing gaps in fundamental or applied science related to the physics and physical chemistry of the solution sate thermodynamics for organic compounds. 

  • Publish research in reputed scientific journals and give presentations at national and international conferences. 

 

Qualifications  

Must-Have  

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) and 9+ years of experience.  

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Proficient in programming using some standard language: C/C++, Python, R, Matlab, etc.  

 

Nice-to-Have  

  • Master’s degree (MA/MS) and 7+ years of experience.  

  • Doctoral Degree (PhD, MD, PharmD).  

  • Strong background in numerical methods, programming and mathematics. 

  • Knowledge of data analysis and visualization packages (e.g., Spotfire or Tableau). 

  • Proficiency in flowsheet modeling using simulation software like gPROMS, ASPEN or related process simulators and simulation software like Matlab & Simulink will be very desirable. 

  • Note: Hiring Manager to include tools, models and system examples based on the specific requirements.
