Principal Solution Architect
Location: Melbourne, Australia
Seniority Level: Director Level
Position Overview: Fractal is looking for an experienced Solutions Architect to drive the design and delivery of sophisticated data and analytics solutions that transform our clients into insights-driven organizations. This role requires a strategic thinker who can bridge business requirements with technical solutions while leading large-scale data initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Architecture
Design and deliver comprehensive data and analytics architectures aligned with client business objectives
Develop and maintain enterprise-wide data frameworks, standards, and roadmaps
Lead architectural decisions for large-scale data programs and initiatives
Drive the adoption of modern data platform concepts including Unified Data Architectures and Data Mesh
Technical Solution Design
Architect end-to-end data engineering and analytics solutions
Design robust data processing pipelines for both batch and real-time scenarios
Establish data modeling and governance frameworks
Implement data validation, reconciliation, and quality control mechanisms
Create solutions for handling various data processing patterns including:
Historical and incremental loads
Unstructured and semi-structured data processing
Data cleaning, enrichment, and aggregation
Snapshot management and reconciliation
Stakeholder Management & Collaboration
Partner with stakeholders to translate business goals into technical solutions
Drive consensus across different perspectives and requirements
Work closely with program management teams to govern project delivery
Collaborate with external teams to optimize technology utilization
Guide implementation teams in leveraging existing capabilities and frameworks
Technology Leadership
Lead the implementation of cloud data platforms and tools
Drive the adoption of DevOps practices and automation
Establish best practices for analytics and BI integration
Oversee the development of ETL/ELT pipelines and orchestration
Guide teams in implementing data governance and security measures
Qualifications:
Minimum 15+ years of experience in the Data Engineering domain
Proven track record of delivering end-to-end data engineering and analytics projects
Deep expertise in modern data platform concepts and cloud technologies:
Google Cloud Platform services including BigQuery, Dataplex, Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, and Composer
Experience with Dataflow, Dataproc, and Vertex AI is advantageous
Data modeling and governance frameworks
ETL/ELT pipeline design and orchestration
DBT and other modern data transformation tools
Strong programming and query skills:
Advanced SQL and NoSQL
Python development
Analytics and BI integration
Extensive experience in:
Real-time and batch data processing
Data validation and quality control
Complex data transformation and enrichment
Performance optimization and scalability
Desirable additional skills:
Container technologies (Docker and Kubernetes)
DevOps practices on GCP
Google Cloud - Professional Cloud Architect Certification
Outstanding communication and leadership skills with ability to:
Drive consensus across diverse stakeholder groups
Lead technical teams and manage multiple projects
Produce high-quality technical documentation and architectures
Pay: The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Fractal, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is: $200,000 - $240,000. In addition, for the current performance period, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus.
Benefits: As a full-time employee of the company or as an hourly employee working more than 30 hours per week, you will be eligible to participate in the health, dental, vision, life insurance, and disability plans in accordance with the plan documents, which may be amended from time to time. You will be eligible for benefits on the first day of employment with the Company. In addition, you are eligible to participate in the Company 401(k) Plan after 30 days of employment, in accordance with the applicable plan terms. The Company provides for 11 paid holidays and 12 weeks of Parental Leave. We also follow a “free time” PTO policy, allowing you the flexibility to take time needed for either sick time or vacation.
