Within AI Platform, the Azure AI Search team powers rich search experiences for apps of all kinds. Integrates the best of Microsoft AI for content understanding, search relevance and more. Azure AI Search is rapidly growing and adapting our product to power many of the leading generative AI applications in the ecosystem, including OpenAI's ChatGPT. We are looking to hire a Principal Software Engineer-AI Search to join the team. This is a unique position to have breadth of owning the engineering systems for all of Azure AI Search and at the same time showcase the solution via customer facing APIs. This is a rare opportunity to lead development for an Azure service at the very center of AI innovation wave, operating at the intersection of AI, Information Retrieval, Cloud Services and security. The Azure AI Search Engineering Foundations team owns the overall secure development lifecycle for Azure AI Search including all internal developer tools, CI/CD process, operational tooling, overall service architecture, security fundamentals, service foundations and release management. We enable fellow Azure AI Search engineers to release features securely and reliably through multiple complex environments by establishing frameworks, patterns and infrastructure to allow teams to self-service their release, compliance, and foundational needs.
As a sounding board to our own engineering systems, as consumers, the team showcases the solution via the data and management plane components. These are components the APIs our customers use to provision services and interact with their services to store and search their data. We provide the foundation to safely and efficiently develop, validate, and deploy component

Experience with large scale distributed cloud systems , engineering systems (build systems, deployment systems, tooling, etc)
Experience with security, secrets and managed identity
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
