The Role: Solution Director : Principal for AI and Tooling

As Principal for AI Tech and Tooling in the central Practice Area group, you are the focal point for ensuring that AND is bringing the right AI tech and tooling to client problems. Using your combined deep and broad technical subject matter expertise, client engagement skills and understanding of the market, you’ll lead by example to develop the proposition that you and others across the Practice Area sell into clients, and ensure they’re delivered to high quality.  

Key Responsibilities :

1. Lead our propositions and Practice Area IP

• Own, manage and evolve our proposition in the AI space, simplifying them to be able to be sold and delivered by others
• Be a leading figure within the AI Practice Area Group to ensure that the community has shared ambitions and objectives
• Develop and promote thought leadership that positions our brand within the market and engages the wider data & AI community
• Ensure clarity regarding what constitutes AI as the vertical within the AI practice area versus what AI represents within other practice areas (i.e., the horizontal)

2. Exploring client problems:

• Act as high level trusted advisor for equivalent c-suite in area of expertise (CPO/CTO/CDO) providing expert guidance and influencing their thinking and ambitions
• Ability to design AI solutions for commercial outcomes
• Nurture your relationships to build your network on the client, building your understanding of the clients business, needs and challenges

3. Solution design

• Shape & elicit business requirements into robust solutions that can be bought. Provide vision, that, in the best interest of the client leads them to AI solutions that generate the best outcomes for their business, and critically develop a framework that others use that in turn drives repeatable patterns
• Develop business case for the client that supports the buying process
• Develop AI Ops practices to ensure solutions deliver lasting benefits
• Guide and mentor AND teams, overseeing solution delivery to ensure it aligns with original vision and ultimately delivery of expected outcomes/value to the client

4. Identify opportunities and lead deal development

• Champion opportunity identification and pursuit across our global business
• Suitably prioritise effort across respective opportunities to ensure the right commercial outcomes for AND as a whole
• Partner with CP and clubs in deal development and pursuit, providing expertise but also educating and upskilling them in the process
• Ensure the cross fertilisation of solutions so that we grow ‘patterns’ that are repeatable

5. Team leadership and development

• Be senior steering, a point of escalation on delivery and point of challenge to ensure high quality and consistency 
• Guide, and develop ANDis on engagements, in their Practice Areas and Clubs helping to grow and elevate capabilities across the business 
• Providing vision, inspiration and motivation across the AI practice area, acting as a role model with behaviours of proactivity, positivity and support. 

Skills & Experience for the role:

Deep & Broad Technical Expertise:

Expert-level knowledge, with hands-on proficiency in multiple relevant technology domains and knowledge and expertise in different AI disciplines

Strategic Thinking & Vision:

Able to connect AI and technology capabilities to overarching business strategies, develop long-term technology roadmaps, and maintain a "big picture" perspective

Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills:

Able to dissect complex business and technical problems, analyse root causes, evaluate various solution options, and design innovative, effective solutions

Communication & Presentation Skills:

Able to articulate complex technical ideas clearly and concisely to diverse audiences—including non-technical executives, business users and deep technical specialists

Leadership & Influence:

Possess leadership capability, exercised through influence rather than direct authority. Influence and lead technical teams and negotiate technical decisions, persuade stakeholders, and drive change. 

Commercial Acumen

Good commercial awareness and understanding of how to identify opportunities that provide both value to the client and ourselves

Adaptability & Learning:

Have a commitment to continuous learning, with the ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and client contexts, and comfort operating in ambiguity

Key performance metrics for this role:

1. Business Growth through proposition success

• Grow AI practice at AND (target TBC)
• Number of capable practitioners as a % ANDis
• Number of quality patterns developed (ie repeatable solutions as % total) 
• Explicability of AI proposition and patterns by ANDis 
• Proposition development: engagement of market and wider AND with the proposition

2. Technical Excellence and Solution Quality

• Integrity of solutions: ensuring integrity, robustness, and effectiveness of the solutions delivered to clients. 
• Bringing deep expertise: Advocating for best practices, directly influencing the quality of work delivered through high quality solution designs
