The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Associate in Robot Learning, AI, and Control within the Robotics Department. This position will be part of the newly established research group led by Prof. Abdalla Swikir. The group focuses on cutting-edge research at the intersection of robot learning, artificial intelligence, and control systems.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will work on advancing research in dynamic systems, learning from demonstration, AI-driven control frameworks, and certified control for robotic systems. Our research aims to enable robots to safely navigate and interact with complex environments, including those with deformable obstacles, and to develop robust AI and control frameworks that ensure safety and stability using novel learning methods. The position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to ongoing projects and to initiate new research directions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop novel AI-based learning and control algorithms for robotic systems.

  • Work on integrating barrier certificates, AI models, and neural network-based dynamical systems for safe and reliable robot navigation and manipulation.

  • Explore compositional learning frameworks and AI approaches to tackle high-dimensional robotic tasks.

  • Publish high-quality research in leading conferences and journals and contribute to grant writing and proposal development.

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and mentor Ph.D. students to support the lab’s research goals.

Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Robotics, AI, Control Systems, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Strong expertise in robot learning, AI, control theory, and dynamical systems.

  • Experience with learning from demonstration, neural networks, and reinforcement learning.

  • Knowledge of barrier certificates, Lyapunov functions, AI-based control frameworks, and compositional analysis for control systems is a plus.

  • A proven track record of research excellence, as evidenced by publications in top-tier conferences and journals.

Contract Details:

  • Duration: The initial contract is for two years, with the possibility of an extension for an additional one or two years based on performance and research outcomes.
