The Trust & Safety (T&S) team at TikTok helps ensure that our global online community is safe and empowered to create and enjoy content across all of our applications. We have invested heavily in human and machine-based moderation to remove harmful content quickly and often before it reaches our general community.The Platform Fairness team aims to minimize harmful bias and discrimination on our platform by centering the voice of our most vulnerable and marginalized stakeholders. This policy team works with T&S policies, programs, and products to embed fairness, inclusion and human rights throughout the platform.As a Policy Manager on the T&S Platform Fairness team, you will champion the responsible development and deployment of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning models within the social media platform space, with a specialty on AI Fairness, Equity and Inclusion. You will shape and drive research-backed assessments related to fairness and AI safety, working cross functionally with key stakeholders across Trust & Safety, Legal, Engineering, and more. It is possible that this role will be exposed to harmful content as part of the core role/as part of project/ in response to escalation requests/by chance. This may occur in the form of images, video, and text related to every-day life, but it can also include (but is not limited to) bullying; hate speech; child safety; depictions of harm to self and others, and harm to animals.Responsibilities:- Champion key cross-team workstreams across T&S to support industry leading efforts for AI fairness;- Develop and refine frameworks to assess fairness risk in AI models;- Conduct AI Fairness Impact Assessments to evaluate potential risks for existing and new AI models as part of ongoing model compliance review processes;- Create reports for XFN partners and leadership across T&S and beyond;- Influence and help prioritize development of dashboards, infrastructure and tooling to support model review use cases;- Support regulatory teams as a subject matter expert on AI compliance related initiatives;- Champion research including working with Outreach and Partnerships to understand and improve the TikTok experience for vulnerable and marginalized communities;- Support Public Policy and Communications teams as needed, supporting cross-functional projects that help translate the team's work and support our broader public narrative. QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:- 5+ years of total experience in Trust & Safety, AI Governance, Product Development or Research, Academia, with preferred expertise on quantitative impact assessments, sensitive research and data analysis;- Technical expertise, understanding of how models and products are developed and trained;- A passion for Responsible AI and AI Fairness;- Demonstrated success working in a fast-paced technology company or research organization conducting AI impact, risk assessments or algorithmic audits, and/or data science or product development related experience;- Experience with designing, implementing, and authoring quantitative and qualitative studies and reports;- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to advocate for fairness amongst a wide variety of business stakeholders including Product Policy, Engineering, Public Policy, Legal, Communications, and Data Science;- Resilience and commitment to self-care to manage the emotional demands of the role.Preferred Qualifications:- AI Governance, Data Science or Trust & Safety background;- Fluency in a second language in addition to English will be considered a plus, as the role involves xFn partnership with different regions across the globe;- Understanding of Trust & Safety positioning in the entertainment media technology sector, with comfort learning internal tools and product workflows.Trust & Safety recognizes that keeping our platform safe for TikTok communities is no ordinary job which can be both rewarding and psychologically demanding and emotionally taxing for some.
