POSITION SUMMARY:

• The Phlebotomist is responsible for the collection and accessioning of laboratory specimens. 
• Inpatient and Outpatient Collection
• Collection which adheres to infection control and Hospital Policies and Procedures
• Adhere to quality/hygiene Procedures and Policies
• Liaise with Medical and Nursing Staff

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Verify laboratory test order and collect patient samples accordingly.
• Practice proper patient identification, and clearly instructs patient/relative about proper patient preparation and specimen collection and transport before and after test procedure, determines complete written test requisition, and determines quality and quantity of acceptable specimen.

• Prioritizes workload in an efficient productive manner. 

• Promotes a safe working environment

• Promotes ethical practices & maintain patient confidentiality

• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Monitors and stocks supplies.

• Participates at the lab monthly focus group 

• Participates in continuing education activities on a regular basis

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technologist/ MLA program in the country of origin Current Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT)/ MLA Licensure in country of citizenship or professional practice and a DOH license.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum two years’ experience in adult and Pediatric phlebotomy.
• Evidence of continuing education.
• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of laboratory and general computer applications. is preferred.
