Huawei’s TTE RAMS Lab is a corporate competence center responsible for researching high reliability and high safety architecture as well as technologies for complex intelligent system; Our goal is to provide Huawei products with cutting-edge researches and advanced technical solutions on intelligent reliability and safety for carrier grade ICT and safety critical systems such as autonomous driving so that our products provide our customers with best user experiences and performance.

Prevailing integration of intelligent components into autonomous agents like robots, autonomous driving requires rigorous safety considerations. Due to inherent shortcomings of current ML techniques such as LLM-based generative models, safety is still a major challenge for safe-critical intelligent systems, issues such as explanability, robustness and reliability pose obstacles for the applicability. Complexity of changing and often adversarial open environment of the system makes brittleness of today’s ML methods a major safety risk factor. Our lab is looking for a joint PhD student for our dynamic team, a successful candidate will be mentored by a Huawei expert and an advisor from Universities.

PhD Student in Reliable Generative AI for Intelligent Agent Safety (m/f/d)

Your mission

  • Investigating state-of-the-art research of reliability for generative AI models, identify and formalize detailed challenges and deficiency of investigated approaches.
  • Conduct independent research of relevant topics, publish at top conferences and journals.
  • Work closely with a group of domain experts and researchers, deliver research results.
  • Conduct collaborations with research institutions such as universities and other partners.

Your areas of expertise

  • Successfully completed Master degree in Computer Science, E/E, Mathematics or other relevant engineering majors.
  • Solid background in mathematics, esp. in linear algebra, statistics/probability, and possess in-depth knowledge of the theoretical foundations of machine learning.
  • Deep understanding of current state-of-the-art approaches for AI safety in one or more areas such as computer vision /reinforcement learning/NLP with good record of publications in renowned conferences or journals.
  • Hand-on experiences in the latest ML methods such as transformer(ViT/Text), stable diffusion/DiT, confidence estimation and robust/reliability evaluations of AI models is a plus.
  • Experience with agent foundation models for robotics and training/fine-tuning of such models
  • Excellent programming skills and hands-on experience with main ML frameworks.
  • Strong programming skill in at least one of the following programming languages: Python, Java, C/C++, Rust, Julia.
