Machine Learning Scientist III, People Insights

The People Analytics team at Expedia Group (EG) is a rapidly growing team that uses data and analytics to understand our organization’s health and to define and shape the Expedia’s employee experience. In Expedia, we believe data powers experiences. We are searching for an experienced machine learning scientist who is excited by being part of building out our new data science and machine learning capability in the people team. You are an industry-experienced scientist who create novel data science and machine learning solutions to solve some of the most challenging organizational, people experience and inclusion and diversity questions. You will work with multi-disciplinary teams to establish our data science standards and ensure models are translated into scalable data solutions.

What you'll do:

  • Proactively frame Expedia's most complex people and business problems as an analytics problem and concrete set of analytical tasks

  • Apply a range of advanced statistical / scientific methods to complex social science problems (such as advanced regression analysis & interpretation, stochastic processes, causal inference, neural networks, Markov models, and unsupervised learning techniques)

  • Experimental design and evaluation

  • Coordinate with data engineers in building production grade data pipelines, which can support business critical applications

  • Work with interdisciplinary product teams to craft, develop and optimize solutions

  • Apply and provide strategic recommendations to our functional toolsets that are aligned with the wider business strategy

  • Collaborate with peer data science teams to refine and improve engagement driven test methodology, competitive analysis, and measurement best practices

  • Establish model testing, validation and production grade performance standards with the goal of scalability and personalization in mind

  • Proactively contribute to cross team collaboration and lead the alignment of work with broader initiatives.

  • Communicate technical subject matter clearly and concisely to audiences of various backgrounds

  • Provide mentorship and coaching to the People Insights team, which is comprised of data analysts and engineers

Who you are:

  • Ability to find, read, understand, adopt, and adapt seminal and cutting-edge social science and machine learning academic or applied works to EG's people strategy

  • Hands-on experience with querying and building big data architectures (streaming events, data lakes, analytics engines) and relational database models as it lates to analytics

  • Track record of applying CI/CD principles or working closely with MLOps Engineers

  • Understand functional metrics and approaches new insights strategically, considering impacts to the wider business strategy.

  • Entrepreneurial, resilient and excited about building a brand-new capability in a complex organization

  • An excellent communicator with the ability to influence across various levels of the organization

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $137,500.00 to $192,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $220,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience.  Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
