Description
Open Rank Faculty in HCI
Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) is a graduate-level, research-oriented university that is already ranked in the world’s top 20 by CSRankings for AI, ML, CV, & NLP. Currently MBZUAI is home to 235 Master’s students and 135 PhD students and over 80 world leading faculty members led by its President, Eric Xing. The University started with three departments (machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing), and has recently launched five new departments (robotics, computer science, statistics & data science, computational biology, and human-computer interaction).
Our HCI Department is rapidly expanding and seeking exceptional faculty to join our team. We anticipate the department growing to 20 full time members over the next 2-3 years. As the region’s premier department dedicated to the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), we are committed to groundbreaking, human-centered research. Research areas of interest include but are not limited to:
-
User Interface Design, Interaction Design (including the design of chatbots, voice assistants, and virtual agents), User Experience Design, and Service Design
-
Data Design, Visualization, and Investigation
-
VR/AR Interactions
-
Ubiquitous, Wearable, Tangible, and Affective Computing
-
Human-Agent and Human-Robot Interaction (HRI)
-
Human Augmentation (including sensory, cognitive and physical enhancement, and HCI aspects of neurotechnology and biomedical engineering).
Domains of interest include but are not limited to:
-
Health and Healthcare: Designing personal healthcare experiences, as well as medical devices and software.
-
Education: Developing tools, platforms and enhanced experiences for learning and skill development.
-
Entertainment: Designing new forms and formats of experiential media and multimedia storytelling, including music, film, and immersive environments.
-
Business and Productivity: Designing software for businesses, organizations, and personal productivity.
-
Smart Buildings and Smart Cities: including travel and transportation.
-
Assistive Technology: empowering people with disabilities
-
Culture and Cultural Heritage: including explorations of cultural difference, and digital preservation, translation and transcription.
We prioritize inclusion, accessibility, privacy, safety, and sustainability in all our research. We are dedicated to developing and implementing ethical guidelines and policies to ensure responsible AI and HCI practices.
If you are passionate about shaping the future of human-computer interaction and AI, we invite you to apply.
Applicants will be considered at the levels of Full Professor, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor. Applicants must have a PhD in Human-Computer Interaction or in a closely related area with strong ties in their work to technology design and evaluation (e.g., cognitive science, human factors, psychology, computer science, sociology, interaction design, anthropology). Applicants should have demonstrated excellence in conducting innovative and impactful research, and an interest in mentoring graduate students.
