Our computational biology and biomedical informatics initiative is expected to grow to 20 full-time faculty, and we are now seeking applications for new faculty appointments. We invite candidates at all levels to apply.
Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) is the world’s first AI university. It is a graduate-level research-oriented university with 200 Master’s students and 85 PhD students from over 40 nationalities (31% female), and over 60 world-leading faculty members. The university started with three departments: Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Natural Language Processing, and has recently launched two new departments: Robotics, and Computer Science. MBZUAI now seeks to build new capacity in all areas of computational biology and biomedical informatics. It is ranked 18th in the world for AI, and is one of only 8 universities in the world to be ranked in the top-30 for all of CV, ML, and NLP (csrankings.org).
The new department will undertake rigorous, high-impact, and original research. Topics of interest include all areas of bioinformatics, computational and systems biology, medical informatics, and health informatics at all scales, from the molecular to the population levels using diverse data including all omic, drug screening, biomedical imaging, epidemiological, and electronic health record data. MBZUAI is well connected to a network of world-class hospitals in the region that have a unified HER system (Malaffi) and the G42 genome sequencing facility in charge of sequencing Emirati genomes is located on the MBZUAI campus offering exciting opportunities for collaborations.
Applicants must have a PhD in Computer Science or in a closely related area before the start of the appointment. They should have demonstrated excellence in conducting innovative and impactful research, and an interest in mentoring graduate students. MBZUAI offers an attractive remuneration package and generous start-up funds to stimulate cutting-edge research and support faculty in building strong research programs.
