Oversees the clinical and quality aspects of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) service under the guidance of the Technical Director. Performs MRI examinations per the American Hospital Dubai and Medical Imaging Department guidelines. Participates in the daily clinical work rota and out-of-hour standby schedule. Coordinates patient schedules, evaluates critical and emergency procedures, and collaborates closely with radiologists. Leads the MRI technologists, ensuring the execution of QA/QC integrity checks, and fostering professional development through mentorship and education. Oversees the day-to-day MRI procedures, implements skills review tools, and contributes to the coordination of Quality Improvement and Education Programs.
•Oversees for clinical and quality of the MRI service under the direction of the Technical Director.
•Performs all requested MRI examinations per the American Hospital Dubai and Medical Imaging Department guidelines.
•Participates in the daily clinical work rota as a staff technologist and also the out-of-hour stand-by schedule.
•Performs the full range of MRI procedures, which include instructing and manipulating patients, selecting techniques and calibrating equipment, to obtain high-quality images.
•Operates and maintains equipment used in the performance of job duties competently and efficiently.
•Schedules patients for MRI examinations if required.
•Evaluates the nature of critical and emergency procedures and arranges patient priorities to accommodate them in conjunction with Radiologist and department leadership instructions.
•Works closely with the radiologists to cater for all procedural needs and requirements.
•Reviews the request and previous studies to determine any unique procedural requirements before performing the examination.
•Accomplishes tasks through working effectively with others and appreciating the commitment and value of all team members.
•Rosters MRI technologists to complete daily and weekly QA/QC integrity checks on rooms and equipment to ensure MRI areas are prepared and ready to accept patients.
•Checks equipment and accessory devices availability and readiness, stock availability and ensures MRI technologists clean and tidy rooms at the end of all shifts.
•Develops and implements procedural and equipment-based skills review tools.
•Reviews at least annually the technologist's skills and competence level.
•Acts as a mentor, clinical instructor, and educator.
•Provides documented evidence of progress for new MRI technologists and for non-licensed MRI technologists who may be seconded to the MRI modality.
•Oversees, trains, and monitors technologists in the day-to-day execution of MRI procedures, and in the effective and safe operation of facilities, and equipment.
•Ensures all technologists assess and reassess patients and review appropriate safety measures before procedures, including adhering to MRI safety standards and guidelines.
•Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest trends in the field of expertise and to maintain the appropriate level of professional competence.
•Performs tasks utilising IT-based systems, including Radiological Information System (RIS) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
•Protects the integrity and confidentiality of all data and information.
•Utilises RIS and EMR as appropriate to role.
•Attends, participates, and represents MRI in hospital/departmental meetings, where appropriate.
•Applies technical, critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
•Performs other additional duties as assigned providing appropriate training has been given.
•Assist the Chief of Medical Imaging and Technical Director with the coordination of the MRI modality Quality Improvement and Education Programs.
•Implements processes in the MRI division to maintain service-level care provision underpinning both Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) standards of care and regulations.
•Monitors the service consistently and proposes changes to ensure efficiency and a high quality of service at all times.
•Undertakes a risk review of the MRI service at least annually and provides a plan of action for resolution.
•Works with the MRI team to ensure risks are minimized.
•Performs and monitors safety checks on patients, employees, and visitors to comply with the safety regulations.
•Develops, implements, and provides reports on MRI Quality Control (QC) test protocols based on best practice standards and professional guidelines.
•Acts to continually improve the level of clinical and non-clinical outcomes and level of customer satisfaction in both individual and teamwork processes.
•Assist with follow-up of Incidents/Accidents/Unusual Occurrences and Patient Complaints, as appropriate to MRI, as directed by the Technical Director.
•Follows Infection Control principles as dictated by hospital policy.
•Keeps equipment and work areas clean and ready for patient care activities, by disinfecting units and accessories regularly, including all coils, keeping food, drink, and personal items away from clinical work areas, ensuring hair and scarves are off the collar and that appropriate uniforms are worn at all times when on duty.
•Monitors the use of MRI-specific supplies, ensuring that minimum and maximum par levels are maintained.
•Assists with the monthly environmental rounds in MRI and participates in the Medical Imaging Department-wide environmental rounds.
•Complies with Hospital Policy and Procedure regarding safety, infection control and security (Codes of Ethics, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPAA) requirements and patient rights).
•Participated in and develops information for MRI-specific performance measures as required.
•Understands performance improvement concepts and demonstrates understanding by defining performance improvement, and verbalizing/describing at least one major goal of a performance improvement program within the MRI setting in the last 12 months.
•Bachelor's Degree in Radiography/Radiology Technology or Medical Imaging
•Active home country registration
•Dubai Health Authority (DHA) License
•More than five (5) years of experience as an MRI Technologist
•Knowledge of human anatomy, human physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and medical terminology
•Knowledge of radiation, magnetic protection, and safety
•Knowledge of Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) or accreditation standards
•Knowledge of Middle East Culture and Customs
•Ability to mentor and facilitate clinical instruction to onboard non-licensed/licensed MRI technologists
•Ability to remain sensitive to the needs of the patient through good communication, patient assessment, patient monitoring, and patient care skills
•Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and MRI techniques
•Ability to speak and write in English fluently
