The Department of Philosophy and the Cogut Institute for the Humanities at Brown University seek to make an appointment for a Mellon Postdoctoral Research Associate specializing in the Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence, understood broadly to include issues related to the philosophy of mind, the philosophy of cognitive science, the philosophy of language, the philosophy of science, ethics, and other areas. The area of competence is open.
The position begins July 1, 2025 for a duration of two years. The appointee for this position is expected to teach two courses per academic year, including one on the Philosophy of AI. The research associate is also expected to participate in the Cogut Institute’s weekly Tuesday seminars as well as other activities.
Applicants should have their Ph.D. in hand by July 1, 2025 or their Ph.D. must have been awarded within the last five years. Recipients of a Ph.D. from Brown University are ineligible. Research Associates are employed with standard benefits and a $2,000 per year reimbursable research fund. Scholars from outside the United States are appointed under J-1 visas (exchange visitors status) only.
