The team

We are the General Legal Affairs Department of ING of approximately 35 lawyers advising our stakeholders on a wide range of topics such as KYC/AML, market abuse, competition law, sustainability, regulatory affairs, internal investigations, procurement contracts, IP and IT law, privacy, payments, etc. We have a strong passion for the legal profession and support our internal clients with top tier legal advisory to ensure that they know how to manage their business within the boundaries of the law and ING’s risk appetite. In addition we translate new laws and regulations into practice and our department is a legal centre of expertise for our legal colleagues in other jurisdictions in which ING operates. We also represent ING in (legal) committees of (international) banking consultative and industry bodies.

As strategic partner in business we are in constant dialogue with our commercial, tech and risk colleagues and with each other. We work together closely, debating with and challenging colleagues and sharing knowledge with each other by both informal and formal means. In this way we are able to benefit as much as possible from shared knowledge and experience, lessons learned and best practices. We share our expertise and knowledge in respect of new developments as broadly through the ING network as possible.

We believe that it is important that our business is up to date with the legal ins-and-outs of the products with which they work. We keep them up to date with all the latest developments through quarterly newsletters, one on one meetings, learn and lunch sessions etc. We also offer internal clients a comprehensive training package with e-learnings, webcasts and classroom sessions. Therefore, presentation skills are also important.

Role and responsibilities

  • You will work on the scaling of ING’s (Gen)AI and data capabilities;
  • You proactively analyze market developments and new (AI) legislation and regulations and translate these into practical legal guidance and advice with impact analyses;
  • You assist in the drafting, reviewing and negotiating of contracts in relation to (Gen)AI, data and tech solutions as well as in supporting of the internal risk journeys and assessments of proposed usage of AI.
  • You work on the international rollout of (Gen)AI and tech and data solutions by timely engaging and supporting of legal colleagues in ING's network;
  • You collaborate with a broad set of stakeholders within the bank involved in the development and deployment of data initiatives and (Gen)AI capabilities; and
  • You share knowledge and provide specialist training for internal clients.

  • a Master's Degree in Dutch (or another EU jurisdiction) Law;
  • experience with financial services and banking products;
  • affinity with data, tech and/or (Gen)AI;
  • an understanding of legal procurement practices;
  • 3-6 years experience as in-house counsel, lawyer or legal consultant;
  • willingness to learn analyzing (international) financial regulation as well as data and privacy regulations, making impact and risk analyses and advising on implementation of (Gen)AI and data solutions; and
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency of Dutch is considered a plus.
