Lead Data Engineer AI/ML

We are looking for a talented and experienced Lead Data Engineer with a strong focus on data insights and MLOps to join our innovative team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing data solutions that drive actionable insights and support machine learning operations (MLOps), enabling data-driven decision-making across the General Insurance Commercial lines business.
This role requires a deep understanding of data engineering, analytics, MLOps, and a passion for transforming data into valuable business insights.
A bit about the job:
- Data Insights Leadership: Lead the development and implementation of data engineering solutions that support advanced analytics, business intelligence, and machine learning initiatives.
- Use industry best practice to ensure fast, simple, and reliable ML pipelines.
- We are migrating to Snowflake and upskilling a new AI/ML team, you will be an integral part of the decision-making process in adopting the new platform.
- MLOps Implementation: Design, build, and maintain scalable robust data pipelines and infrastructure to support the deployment, monitoring, and management of machine learning models. (e.g. feature flows, scoring, integration, and model monitoring)
- Data Pipeline Optimisation: Ensure the efficient collection, processing, and storage of large datasets, optimising data pipelines for performance and reliability.
- Collaboration: Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver insights that drive strategic decisions.
- Data Quality and Governance: Implement best practices for data quality, governance, and security to ensure the reliability and integrity of data insights and machine learning models.
- Team Mentorship: Guide and mentor, a team of data engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a deep understanding of data modelling, ETL processes, data warehousing, and machine learning lifecycle management.
- Excellent in writing clean, maintainable, and robust code in Python, Spark, SQL-like languages.
- Worked with Snowflake ideally or another cloud platform extensively.
- Partnering closely with our data engineering colleagues to improve ETL and data pipelines.

- Salary Circa £60,000 national/ Circa £70,000 London (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications).
