As Lead Data & AI Architect for 6G Automation, you will be an integral part of the Nokia Standards Standards Architecture, Security and Automation team, applying the latest advances in machine learning, logical reasoning and data science to move 6G networks closer to autonomous operation. You will join a high-performance global team committed to driving continuous improvement and world-class innovation in networking research.

You will elevate our automation research and innovation to the next level; you will address real-world challenges, create innovations, and provide guidance and inspiration on novel applications and research directions of artificial intelligence for communication networks.

We are looking for a lead architect to drive Nokia 6G edge and AI automation research and standardization roadmap.

What you will learn and contribute to

  • Develop concepts for network intelligent and data-driven automation, end-to-end across wireline and wireless next generation networks, and along the whole lifecycle
  • Shape future “AI-native”, autonomous 6G networks, their architectures and core enablers
  • Define research and standards roadmaps and open new solution spaces for network automation, AI innovations and inventions in- (6G) next-generation networks
  • Coordinate network automation and AI-related innovation work streams, collaborate with word-class engineering teams to create novel AI-based solutions to solve domain-specific challenges 
  • Mentor and guide network automation and AI practitioners and data engineers to design best-in-class network AI solutions
  • Identify and master the latest network automation advances combined with AI and Data, adapt and apply them to the domain of communication networks
  • Build-up robust intellectual property assets for Nokia
  • Contribute to internal alignment with Business Groups and external alignment with customers and partners 
  • Learn from the best in the industry about cutting-edge communication network technologies
  • Disseminate research visions and results via different forms of publications, and represent Nokia in industry and scientific events
  • Support the corresponding standards and open-source organizations work, with concepts and contributions
  • Validate concepts by experimental work (network data- and simulation-based), developing prototypes and demonstrations

Your skills and experience 

You have:

  • A PhD in computer science, telecommunications or a related field
  • Five or more years of experience in research or advanced engineering in automation of wireline and wireless networks, novel AI and data-driven solutions, in industry or academia 
  • Experience or strong knowledge of edge networking (architecture, cloud-native principles, distributed AI and data platforms)
  • Experience with operations of machine learning platforms (lifecycle management, MLOps, LLMOps) applied in industry-relevant or telecommunications use cases
  • Strong knowledge of the fundamentals of artificial intelligence and machine learning 
  • Hands-on experience in network automation combined with data and analytics techniques and architectures
  • Excellent understanding and experience in one or more sub-fields of artificial intelligence (causal AI, explainable AI, self-supervised learning, machine reasoning, neuro-symbolic AI, graph neural networks, graph/semantic databases, bio-inspired AI, generative AI, distributed AI…)
  • Good knowledge of data frameworks, data pipelines, data analysis and statistical modelling
  • Good knowledge and/or experience of standards specifications and practices from different standardization bodies
  • Excellent team working capabilities and drive to mentor and teach colleagues about the latest advances in network automation and artificial intelligence
  • Strong experience in IPR portfolio creation

It would be nice if you also had:

  • Prior R&D project management experience 
  • An advanced understanding of network security, privacy and cloud platforms
