Large Language Model SME

The Opportunity: 

As an experienced engineer, you know that machine learning is critical to understanding and processing massive datasets. Your ability to conduct statistical analyses on business processes using ML techniques makes you an integral part of delivering a customer-focused solution. We need your technical knowledge and desire to problem-solve to support our Department of Defense clients. As a Large Language Model SME on our Digital Battlespace Platform team, you’ll train, test, deploy, and maintain models that learn from data.   

As as a Large Language Model SME you will play a critical role in advancing our defense clients' capabilities through the innovative application of artificial intelligence and large language models. This position involves designing, developing, and deploying sophisticated AI models tailored to address the unique challenges of the defense sector. Our AI and ML engineer will engage in data management, algorithm development, and collaborative efforts with interdisciplinary teams to ensure the seamless integration of generative AI solutions into defense systems. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in AI research, capable of implementing cutting-edge solutions, and dedicated to maintaining high standards of performance, security, and compliance. Additionally, this role demands strong communication skills to effectively convey complex AI concepts to various stakeholders and to ensure that all AI initiatives align with the strategic objectives of our defense clients.

You Have:  

  • 5+ years of experience developing in Python and scripting in Bash

  • Experience in a DoD, Intelligence, or Aerospace environment

  • Experience with basic and applied research and applying novel solutions to DoD problems

  • Experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP)

  • Experience with the full machine learning lifecycle, including use case assessment and data cleaning, all the way through final delivery to the client

  • Experience with prompt engineering, prompt chaining, and related software, such as LangChain

  • Experience building LLMs from scratch and fine-tuning LLMs

  • Ability to run an LLM without internet in an air gapped environment

  • Secret clearance

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or Data Science

Nice If You Have:  

  • Experience with big data technologies, such as Hadoop or Spark and cloud computing platforms, such as AWS or Azure

  • Experience with productization of prototypes

  • Experience with responsible AI and LLM safety

  • Experience using or migrating CI/CD pipeline solutions or tools, including GitLab 

  • Knowledge of system engineering methodologies

  • Knowledge of system integrations and interoperability

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $96,600.00 to $220,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
