Verisk is seeking an exceptional Junior Data Scientist Team Lead to join our dynamic Cracow office. This hybrid role requires a unique blend of people management acumen and hands-on project involvement.

The ideal candidate will support our team and drive forward our projects, ensuring excellence at every step.

Team Lead responsibilities: 

  • Lead the planning and execution of projects, ensuring they meet deadlines and quality standards
     
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the data science team, including task allocation and performance monitoring
     
  • Ensure the adoption of best practices within the team, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
     
  • Facilitate team meetings and brainstorming sessions to foster a collaborative and productive work environment
     
  • Evaluate and integrate new tools and technologies to enhance the team's capabilities and efficiency
     
  • Act as a liaison between the data science team and other departments to ensure effective collaboration and communication
     
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members, ensuring their professional development and growth
     
  • Foster a positive and inclusive team culture, encouraging open communication and feedback.

Project scope of the position will include:    

  • Participate in the execution and development of analysis project plans for timely project completion under supervision

  • Utilize statistical and machine learning techniques to create high-performing models (GLM, statistical) that comply with regulatory and privacy requirements and address business objectives and client needs

  • Ensure statistical, computational, and algorithmic validity of results

  • Perform analyses of structured and unstructured data to solve multiple and complex business problems by utilizing statistical, mathematical, and machine-learning techniques

  • Work with other technical teams and business units for Research&Development, and delivery of solution

  • Provide required support for project delivery and implementation

  • Create clear and easy-to-understand documents for product support (technical)

  • Present analysis ideas, progress reports, and results to internal stakeholders & project managers

  • Collaborate with Lead or Principal Data Scientist to develop technical approaches and new or enhanced technical tools

  • Demonstrate an ability to keep up to date with emerging methods and environments.

Qualifications

  • Graduate-level degree with a concentration in a quantitative discipline such as statistics, mathematics economics, operations research, computer science, or an aligned discipline

  • Willingness to assume supervisory or team leadership roles within data teams, or previous experience in such capacities

  • Possesses a strong understanding of team management, encompassing both soft skills and operational competencies

  • Skilled with feature engineering, model selection, and assessment methodologies, and familiarity with all stages of the data science pipeline

  • Knowledge in & applied experience with statistical and machine learning

  • Practical experience using statistical and machine learning computer languages (e.g. R, Python & SQL)

  • English at least at B2 level (spoken and written)

  • Working familiarity with cloud computing environments (AWS preferred) 

  • Logical, evidence-based problem-solving and critical thinking skills

  • Willingness to work as a full-time employee in a hybrid model from the Cracow-based office.  

Moreover, we are welcome to people with: 

Insurance experience, focusing on personal lines, commercial lines, underwriting, or related business content would be a strong asset 

Practical experience in:

  • creating unit tests in Python
  • GitLab CI/CD pipelines
  • working with ETL pipelines
