In this role you will  

  • Deliver data solutions with measurable cross-organizational impact and value, including but not limited to: code libraries, analytical pipelines, data processing pipelines, visualizations, front-end tools, etc.
  • Design and build solutions that leverage existing or planned cloud infrastructure from partner functions in Scientific Digital & Tech and GSK's Onyx Research Data Platform.
  • Partner with Bioimaging Analytics to conceptualize and lead state-of-the-art interactive data visualization in the Imaging Decision, Exploration and Augmentation suite, surfacing relevant information from large data fabric and knowledge graph, denoising and accelerating the decision-making process
  • Enable facile data collation, preparation, and storage, perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in the data and communicate findings.
  • Manage your projects using basic project management and appropriate communications.
  • Contribute to the overall Data & Predictive Sciences goals and objectives via implementation of relevant components of those objectives.
  • Collaborate with research scientists and stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver appropriate solutions. Work with your Team Leader to prioritize your book of work.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to teamwork and partnership with all stakeholder functions.
  • Work with other data scientists to build an understanding of the business context, systems, environment, strategy and people aligned to this area.  This includes an understanding of the relevant internal and external high-volume data sources, validity and domains of such data aligned with business objectives.
  • Be a standard bearer for proper ways of working, engineering discipline, process improvement, etc. for the entire Research Tech organization.
  • Work across Data Sciences teams to contribute to peer review, quality, consistency and enterprise thinking.
  • Seek and be responsive to peer feedback to grow your skills and impact.
  • Continuously improve your skills and knowledge to keep abreast of advancements in this rapidly evolving field. 

Why you? 

Basic Qualifications & Skills:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: 

  • PhD (or extensive years professional experience with a Masters) in bioinformatics or a relevant scientific domain
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages: e.g. Python (preferred), R, Java, including toolchains for documentation, testing and operations.
  • Experience in using image analysis tools like ImageJ, CellProfiler, 10X Space Ranger and Loupe Browser.
  • Scientific knowledge and/or acumen to understand GSK's biological research data
  • Experience translating complex multi-dimensional data into biological understanding
  • Experience building bioinformatics pipelines and databases with large scale biological data

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

Please note the following skills are not necessary, just preferred, if you do not have them, please still apply: 

  • Strong experience with image processing and analysis techniques, particularly for analysing histological images or spatial data, such as object detection and tracking, instance/semantic segmentation, features extraction and selection.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with statistical methods and machine learning techniques applied to high-dimensional data, including clustering, dimensionality reduction, data fusion across different domains, semantic networks, regression models, and spatial modelling. Knowledge of data manipulation libraries (e.g. pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch) would be advantageous.
  • Experience with bioinformatics tools and packages (e.g., Seurat, Scanpy, SpatialIDE, Giotto) for analysing transcriptomics data.
  • Architect and implement computational solutions that can be scalable on cloud-based infrastructures including Azure, and Google Cloud ecosystem.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with concepts related to Data Fabric, Data Mesh, and Data as an asset.
  • Knowledgeable in the art of data visualization, business dashboarding, and UI/UX.
  • Experience with modern software development tools / ways of working (e.g. Object-Oriented Programming, git/GitHub, DevOps tools, CI/CD, metrics / monitoring)
