Join us in creating the technology that helps the world act together
We are a B2B technology innovation leader pioneering the future where networks meet cloud. At Nokia you will have a positive impact on people’s lives and help build the capabilities needed for a more productive, sustainable, and accessible world.
Be part of a culture built on an inclusive way of working where we are open to your ideas, you are empowered to take risks and are encouraged to be fearless in bringing your authentic self to work.
The team you'll be part of
Nokia Bell Labs is the world-renowned research arm of Nokia, having invented many of the foundational technologies that underpin information and communications networks and all digital devices and systems. This research has produced nine Nobel Prizes, five Turing Awards and numerous other awards.
Within Bell Labs, the "Optical Systems & Devices Research” lab investigates forward-looking research activities for the preparation of the future optical transport networks that will interconnect data centers, cities and continents. Such networks will be expected to provide ever increasing capacity, flexibility and agility at reduced costs and energy impact.
What you will learn and contribute to
The future optical fiber communication networks will be more dynamic in routing traffic, choosing signaling schemes and controlling transmit power to enable maximum utilization of existing infrastructure. To achieve this, massive monitoring of various parameters that can affect system performance is required. Among these parameters is noise which can be broadly categorized as linear and nonlinear noise. An optimal performance can be achieved by maintaining a right balance of linear and nonlinear noise in the link. Therefore, estimation of these noise proportions is crucial.
In this internship, you will join a unique worldwide-recognized team to investigate various methods for noise estimation and transmit power optimization. Your first task will be to study the research literature to understand the existing solutions. It will also give you an overview of linear and nonlinear effects impacting the transmitted signal in an optical fiber. A second task will be to implement new noise estimation methods based on the latest machine learning advances and compare them with existing methods. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to participate in lab experiments to evaluate the performance gain.
