Sensory and Consumer Insights in IFF with the Product Experience Global team

IFF is one of the leading companies on development and production of flavors, fragrances and ingredients for food, beverage, personal care and household product industries. Our products are used by other manufacturing companies producing a wide variety of every-day consumed products (i.e., beverages, detergents, cosmetics, deodorants, dairy products, soups and sauces, etc.).

The Product Experience (PX) department deals with sensory analysis and consumer research in order to support the Creation & Design department and marketing/sales choices. It plays a key role in product development processes, through understanding of consumer needs and expectations (thanks to tools like sensory profiling, preference evaluation, product positioning, etc.).
To follow an internship, a candidate needs to be a student throughout the course of internship.

Proposed subject: Cognitive Science group, Data Science Internship.

With guidance from PX researchers and manager, the intern will develop an automated workflow to run routine data analysis and visualisation - this also includes:

  • Participate for the development of high-quality software that aligns with user needs and business goals.
  • Writing efficient code, debugging, and testing.
  • Data cleaning, stacking, and analysis.
  • Support in implementation and roll out of developed software into IFF’s system.
  • Clear documentation of work so others can understand the code and decisions taken.

Alongside with this main project, the student will be maintaining IFF’s current panel performance and ballot creation database in PX in accordance with our Standard Operation Procedure. The student is also provided opportunity to reviewing and propose future improvements.

Required Skills

  • Scientific: good knowledge in PROGRAMMING SKILLS (e.g., R, Python), STATISTICAL SKILLS (e.g., parametric & non-parametric analysis) are a plus.
  • Computer science: being at ease with digital environment, familiarity with software development methodologies and principles (e.g., wrapping and distribution) is a plus.
  • Language: mandatory scientific and professional English, written and oral.
  • Personal: we are looking for a PRAGMATIC and SOLUTION-ORIENTED student with ANALYTICAL mindset.

Organization

  • Duration: 5-6 months, beginning of the internship February or March 2025 – negotiable.
  • Place: Hilversum (Netherlands).
  • Training allowance around 500€ a month.
