We, the BMW Group, offer you an interesting and varied internship in the area of LLM-enhanced in-vehicle personal assistants. With recent advances in multimodal LLMs, there are new opportunities for natural Human-AI interaction, enabling interactions with image modality context enhancement. This internship aims to investigate how multimodal LLMs (MLLMs) can be utilized to improve the in-car user experience.

What awaits you?

• Engage in core development activities using Python, incorporating LLM libraries and Pydantic.
• Contribute to the platform across multiple programming languages and frameworks, including Android Automotive, Azure Pub/Sub, and various internal APIs, while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Solve complex problems and devise innovative solutions to enhance the MLLM capabilities of our in-vehicle personal assistant.
• Plan and help execute user studies with MLLM-based Prototypes

What should you bring along? 

• Studies in computer science, media informatics or a related field.
• Strong proficiency in Python.
• Knowledge and experience with Azure or other cloud platform deployments integrating with CI/CD tools like Git.
• Experience in developing LLMs; experience with MLLMs is a plus.
• Experience with user-centered development and conducting user studies, ideally in the field of voice user interfaces.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a research and development team, contributing innovative ideas.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are required, and proficiency in German is a plus.
