Industrial PhD Program: Generative AI for Autonomous Driving Simulation (m/f/d)

The successful candidate will focus on developing innovative algorithms and learning techniques, such as world models, latent-based large reconstruction models, vision-language-action models, focusing on the fidelity, realism, and 3D consistency of native AI simulation for autonomous driving. This role involves designing, implementing, and testing cutting-edge algorithms to solve complex real-world challenges.

Your mission

  • Conduct research on Generative AI for Autonomous Driving Simulation including world models, controllable large 3D scene generation, diffusion techniques, video generation, scene reconstruction and multi-modal models.
  • Explore sim-to-real and real-to-sim transfer and deep learning techniques to advance the state of the art.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate research outcome into practical systems and products.
  • Publish research findings in top-tier conferences and journals.

Your areas of expertise

  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Robotics, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and C++, with hands-on experience in machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Solid mathematical foundation, with technical knowledge in 3D projective geometry considered an advantage.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge with Generative approaches (e.g. GANs, diffusion models, video generation models).
  • Experience with 3D reconstruction and generation, scene representations (e.g. NeRF, 3D/4D Gaussians splatting), and scene understanding is a plus
  • Familiarity with camera pose estimation, multi-view stereo, optical flow, reinforcement learning, or similar topics is a plus.
  • A track record of publications in top conferences or journals is considered a plus.
