Role Summary:

The Head of Data Science will work in the global quantitative strategies team that manages $37bln for clients globally. The aim of the quantitative platform is to generate cutting-edge quantitative research with a particular focus on alpha generation and sustainability approaches and integration. The head of data science identifies, advises on and executes opportunities to better utilize data science within the platform. The individual understands how to apply artificial intelligence techniques in an investment context and is able to communicate data science effectively on all levels within the organization and externally to clients and prospects. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the research, development and maintenance of data science into the investment platform.

  • Apply machine learning and artificial intelligence in creating applied signal research, portfolio construction research, sustainability approaches, and risk assessment of (new) investment strategies

  • Forster a culture of innovation, encouraging the exploration of new techniques and technologies that push the frontier

  • Developed and execute a strategic vision for employing advanced AI and ML techniques in the context of investment strategies

  • Collaborate with partners up to C-level to effectively deliver data science across the organization

  • Provide thought leadership and industry engagement

  • Use sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgement and identify innovative solutions

Necessary Knowledge and Skills:

  • Deep level of understanding of AI techniques and how to apply these in complex investment problems

  • Strong knowledge of the established asset pricing and factor anomaly literature

  • Hands-on mentality, being able to execute on AI ideas and opportunities in quick-turnaround times

  • Superior communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to quickly master new applications and tools in order to evolve the capabilities of the quantitative platform

  • Extensive knowledge of Python, SQL, and building cloud-based AI pipelines

Necessary Experience and Education:

  • PhD degree in computer science, data science, mathematics, financial economics or related field

  • 10+ years of experience in a data science role in asset management, preferably a quantitative asset manager or hedge fund

  • Proven track record of running high functioning teams and driving impact in data-driven environments

  • Proven track record in creating thought leadership w.r.t. AI and investment applications is a strong plus
